Founded in 1941, Jeep is a company that’s deeply rooted in tradition. As such, the brand’s current shift to an all-electric lineup has been a complicated one, as it attempts to merge its established identity and style with modern-day EV powertrains and tech. And it appears the American manufacturer has now struck the perfect balance with its first-ever all-electric sport utility vehicle, the Wagoneer S.
After initially previewing the forthcoming model back in January and then showing off full images of the SUV the following month, the Stellantis-owned outfit has now fully revealed its first-ever EV, with full specs, details, and pricing.
The Basics
The Wagoneer S is a fully-electric full-size SUV that’s built using Stellantis’ BEV-native STLA Large platform. Tipping the scales at 5,667lbs, this BEV SUV clocks in at 192.4” in length, 83.6” in width, and stands at 64.8” tall. Boasting multiple best-in-class features, the Wagoneer S comes loaded with an impressive suite of onboard tech and safety systems. For being a nearly-3-ton SUV, Jeep’s inaugural BEV SUV also packs some impressive performance capabilities — along with the marque’s usual brand of go-anywhere prowess.
Powertrain
The Wagoneer S is kicked along by a cutting-edge dual-motor powertrain system with a single drive unit mounted up front and another positioned out back. These motors consist of Stellantis-designed electric drive modules which independently power the front and rear wheels, thereby allowing for instant torque response. The motors send power to an all-electric, four-wheel drive system. The powertrain also benefits from the use of the Jeep brand-exclusive Selec-Terrain traction management system, which now sports five different driving modes; Auto; Sport; Snow; Sand; and Eco.
Battery & Range
The Wagoneer S’ dual-motor powertrain draws from a 400-volt, 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack. When using a DC Fast Charger, this 400-volt cell is able to achieve a 20% to 80% charge in as little as 23 minutes. More importantly, it also affords the forthcoming model with an estimated range of 300 miles per charge — a particularly impressive feat when considering the SUV’s immense size and weight.
Performance Capabilities
Despite its considerable size and heft, Jeep’s Wagoneer S manages to deliver some truly-impressive performance capabilities — including off-the-line speed that’s normally reserved for sports cars. The dual-motor setup puts down 600hp and 590ft-lbs of instantaneous torque. These figures allow the Wagoneer S to clock 0-60mph runs in just 3.4 seconds, and achieve a respectable top speed of124mph.
Exterior
Taking loose inspiration from Jeep’s original Wagoneer from 1963, the all-new Wagoneer S puts a decidedly sleek spin on the marque’s existing design language. Boasting a super-slippery drag coefficient of just 0.29 Cd, the Wagoneer S sports a reimagined, illuminated take on Jeep’s iconic seven-slot grille design. The full-size SUV also features a sloping roofline with an available dual-pane panoramic sunroof that culminates in a cantilevered rear spoiler, while the bottom of the vehicle has been capped off with an integrated system of underbody shields. Riding on 20” wheels, the Wagoneer S also comes loaded with all-LED lighting, flush door handles, and a myriad of other unmistakably modern touches.
Interior
Inside, the cabin of the all-new Jeep Wagoneer S is just as modern of an affair as its exterior. The cabin features heated and ventilated driver and passenger seats, plus a heated and ventilated second-row of seating. The centerpiece of the interior is an all-new cross-car wing sculpture with a visually continuous display that spans the entire width of the front instrument panel —earning it best-in-class usable screen space. The cabin also benefits from a 10.25” front interactive passenger display and a 12.3” driver cluster — the latter of which is set behind a flat-bottom steering wheel design. Inside of the SUV has also been outfitted with ambient cast-lighting and an adjustable ambient lighting setup with 64 selectable colors.
Audiophile-Grade Sound System
Another major highlight of the BEV SUV’s cabin is its audio system. Like the existing Grand Wagoneer, the all-electric Wagoneer S features a segment-exclusive sound system courtesy of legendary American audio brand McIntosh. Custom-tuned by McIntosh for the vehicle, this sound system is comprised of a 19-speaker setup and a 12” sub that come backed by a 1,160-watt amplifier. This sound system ultimately affords the Wagoneer S with true audiophile-grade, high-fidelity audio quality.
Onboard Tech
Like most other state-of-the-art BEVs, the Wagoneer S features a generous slew of safety and security features — with more than 170 of them all coming as standard. This includes an Active Driving Assist, Intersection Collision Assist, Drowsy Driver Detection, and Traffic Sign Recognition, just to name a few. The thing has also been bestowed with a Surround View camera system — a particularly helpful and useful feature on SUVs of this size. The Wagoneer S also has the ability to receive over the air update.
