It’s been 20 years since graphene was discovered, and it was a long road to get to this point, with scientists theorizing about its existence for decades before its discovery. While the material is used in a variety of fields like bioengineering and electronics, there was one clothing label that was bold enough to be the first to create apparel using graphene: the talented British clothing label Vollebak. In 2018, the label dropped the very first graphene jacket in the world, taking the industry by storm and innovating yet again. But Vollebak (in true Vollebak fashion), wasn’t satisfied with just one graphene jacket, which is why they’ve announced the Double Graphene Lightweight Puffer.

Vollebak has a long history of not just making insanely unique and boundary-pushing gear, but also working with graphene. If the OG graphene jacket is anything to go off of, we can expect the Double Graphene Lightweight Puffer to be remarkably lightweight and warm. Using a graphene shell and graphene insulation, this puffer is shaping up to be another world first for Vollebak (the first graphene puffer), and another futuristic piece from the mad scientists over at the label. 

Back in 2022, Vollebak did what they usually do and teased another out-of-this-world piece: the Thermal Camouflage Jacket, a computer-programmable jacket being workshopped alongside the National Graphene Institute at the University of Manchester. Using 42 graphene patches that control thermal radiation, this jacket is designed to make the human body invisible to infrared cameras and blend into its surroundings.
