If you think you’re unfamiliar with Unimatic, just take one look at the Italian company’s watches and it should ring a bell. Despite only launching less than a decade ago, the watchmaker has become a king of minimalist watch design, tapping just a handful of its models for its array of limited-edition releases. For the latest one, we get a new version in the brand’s All-Black series, this time with stealthy black nylon straps.

Back In Black

With minimalism, color becomes more important than ever. We’ve seen Unimatic watches in an array of colors, from brown to olive green. With this All-Black series, the brand entirely blacked out three of its core watch models: the Modello Uno, Modello Due, and Modello Quattro. This isn’t the first time Unimatic models have gotten the all-black treatment but previous iterations have been decidedly more dress-watch-leaning. This current trio, however, falls more in line with the brand’s tool watch prowess.

Building off of the brand’s Series 8 releases from last year — more specifically, its black version (which didn’t feature black cases) — this new release turns the entire case black using DLC coating over the stainless steel material with a refined brushed finish. These are paired with matte black dials.

The Watches

Unlike all-black versions of, say, the Exquisite Timepieces collab (U1S-ET) with its white markers or the uber-sleek U2S-MN which obviates markers entirely, this new series takes the lead from last year’s Series 8 once again with gold metallic closed second rails around the dials and matching dial trims. Adding to the vintage flair, there’s also some Super-LumiNova GL light old radium lume for a cream shade on the hour markers and hands.

While the U2S-8BB and U4S-8BB field watches have fixed bezels, the dive-centric U1S-8BB features a 120-click rotating bezel with a matte black aluminum insert. All three models are water resistant down to 300m, powered by Swiss-made Sellita automatic movements, and come with black seatbelt nylon NATO straps (non-NATO, though, for the U2S-8BB) — there’s also an additional black suede leather two-piece strap for each one.
