The Tudor Black Bay diver is so iconic these days that it’s easy to forget it’s barely 15 years old. Debuting in 2009, the watch came as part of a brand relaunch that allowed it to step out of the shadow cast by its big brother Rolex. Then, in 2021, the Swiss watchmaker came out with the Black Bay Ceramic, which was the first time the model had used the eponymous material on the case. It also sported a handsome, bold style that firmly positioned Tudor as a force in the modern watch world.
Today, the company has revealed the blue version of the Black Bay Ceramic which unofficially debuted a few months back as part of the surprising new partnership with the Visa Cash App Red Bull Formula 1 team, on the wrists of drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda. However, you had to be a team member to get one of these for yourself. Now, the watch is available for the public to purchase, and it looks even better close up.
Tudor Black Bay Ceramic Blue Basics
Matching the livery on the VCARB F1 car, the new diver has a glossy blue dial in place of the matte black of the standard Black Bay Ceramic. This is paired with the same 41mm black ceramic case and bezel with 200m of water resistance. However, the indices and dial text are much lighter now, in white instead of gray, which offers an interesting, objectively less “stealthy” aesthetic. If that’s not enough, you’ll notice the white Super-LumiNova-filled hands and hour markers, which are surrounded with a darker gray hue as well.
What’s on the Inside?
Powering the dive watch is the same anti-magnetic Master Chronometer MT5602-U1 automatic movement, which was the first METAS-certified caliber ever put inside a Tudor reference when it debuted three years ago. You can take a look at this movement through the sapphire crystal on the exhibition caseback. Affixed to the ceramic case is either the black leather-rubber hybrid strap with blue stitching or the black NATO strap.
