Toyota Unveils Its All-Electric LAND CRUISER Se Concept

In June of 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea, kicking off a long and complex conflict. While North Korea was backed by the Soviet Union, its neighbor to the south was supported by the United States, which at the time was still occupying Japan. As the conflict raged on, it quickly became clear that there was a dire need for capable military vehicles, so, the U.S. urged Japan to develop and produce a rugged military truck that could be deployed throughout the region. This would ultimately give way to the now-legendary Toyota Land Cruiser in 1951. Fast forward to today and the Land Cruiser remains an important part of Toyota’s current lineup. And as the brand now prepares to shift to an all-electric model range, it’s began laying the groundwork for what will be an EV version of the truck, starting with the newly-unveiled Toyota LAND CRUISER Se Concept.

Revealed at the ongoing 2023 Japan Mobility Show — formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show — the LAND CRUISER Se represents a massive step forward for the truck, receiving an ultra-sleek exterior design and an equally cutting-edge powertrain to match. This BEV features a monocoque body that’s been engineered with a major focus on responsive handling.Despite its unmistakably sleek appearance, the concept is also said to offer some decent go-anywhere capabilities, with a small factory lift, flared fenders, and a front skid-plate all being present.

Boasting a three-row configuration with seating for seven, the LAND CRUISER Se stands at 67.1” tall, spans, 202.75” in length, 78.34” in width, and features a 120” wheelbase — meaning its dimensions are roughly comparable to that of the existing petrol-powered late model Land Cruisers. As far as actual performance specs are concerned, Toyota has thus far been extremely tight-lipped, though we imagine this one-off concept will heavily influence the eventual Land Cruiser BEV that the company is currently developing.

The Toyota LAND CRUISER Se Concept is currently on display at the Japan Mobility Show and will remain there throughout the duration of the event.
