Made for only a few short years starting in ’65 and ending in ’69, the Alfa Romeo GTA has long been one of our all-time favorite vintage cars. Unsurprisingly, Totem Automobili’s GTA-based automotive creations stand as some of our very favorite restomods. And while there was already a lot to like about the outfit’s existing $500K+, 500-hp+ electric and gas-powered restomods, the shop has now outdone itself with an even more exclusive, and more powerful limited edition variant known as the Totem GTAmodificata.
Freshly unveiled at the 2024 Geneva International Motor Show, the Totem GTAmodificata (Italian for “GTAmodified”) is a modern-day automotive homage to Alfa Romeo’s GTAm (with the “Am” standing for “Alesaggio Maggiorato” (Italian for “increased bore”). This monicker is fitting on several levels. First because the GTAm was a more high-performance version of the GTA, and second, because Totem’s new GTAmodifica features a larger 3.2-liter engine that’s been bored out from the Totem GT Super’s 2.8-liter mill. Built by Italtecnica Engineering, this new 3.2-liter lump consists of a twin-turbocharged V6 that’s been paired with a sequential gearbox pulled from a late model Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio powertrain, and a limited-slip differential sending power to the car’s rear wheels. Good for 810hp and 538ft lbs of torque, the GTAmodificata can clock 0-60mph runs in 2.6 seconds and is able to reach a top speed exceeding 186mph. Weighing in at 2,414lbs at the curb, the new model is more than 200kgs (440lbs) lighter than the GT Super while making over 200hp more.
Totem Automobili has constructed the GTAmodificata around a custom-built carbon-fiber monocoque that’s been merged to the donor vehicle’s framework. From there, the hybridized chassis has been fitted with a set of custom-engineered billet aluminum double wishbone suspension units with R53 dampers fore and aft. Draped over the frame is a bespoke widebody-style set of bodywork crafted entirely from carbon fiber. Rather than hiding it beneath a coat of paint, the body’s carbon construction is left on full display — plus is complemented via a metallic carbon finish and new LED lighting all around. The entire thing also rides on a set of special custom-fabricated negative offset 2-piece wheels made by Dymag. Shod in Pirelli Trofeo R rubber, these wheels boast exposed carbon barrels, Brembo six-piston calipers, and concave forged aluminum discs. Inside, the car’s cabin has been completely gutted and reworked. Equipped with custom seats, custom instrumentation, and a custom dash, the cabin is trimmed in leather and Alcantara and is absolutely brimming with carbon fiber elements.
Limited to only five units worldwide, the Totem Automobili GTAmodificata is available for order now, with pricing set at €1,100,000 (~ $1,203,000) — more than double the price of the €460,000 (~$535,000) Totem GT Super.
