TLC4x4 Built. aPorsche-Inspired 1988 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62

From its original 356 model to current eighth-generation (992) 911, Porsche’s vehicles have long been heralded as some of the most beautifully-designed cars in existence. Unsurprisingly, the Stuttgart marque’s models have had a profound influence on the larger automotive industry — as evidenced by TLC4x4’s latest one-off work; a bespoke-built 1988 Toyota Land Cruiser inspired by classic Porsche design elements.

Starting out as a 1988 FJ62, the 60-Series donor was first met with a complete tear-down, before seeing its frame and axles hit with a fresh powder-coating. The powder-coated framework has been paired with a modernized suspension setup with OME Springs and FOX Racing Shocks. The chassis now houses a new 6.2-liter LS3 V8 bolted to an automatic GM 6L80 transmission. Fitted with a custom stainless steel exhaust terminating in MagnaFlow Mufflers, the 6.2-liter V8 is good for 430hp. Further modernizing the Toyota’s performance is a Red Head steering box and an up-specced braking system with new pads and DBA rotors. The customs and restorations shop also treated the Fj62 to a stainless steel fuel tank that’s been integrated underneath the vehicle, allowing the donor to retain its original underslung spare tire location.

Riding on a set of Method 17” MR 316 Wheels wrapped in BFG all-terrain tires, this six-figure, Stage 3 TLC4x4 build sports a special Porsche-inspired Grey Axalta Cromax XP paint job, along with a host of other nods to the sports car brand’s retro models. This includes custom TLC-designed front fender and rear 3/4 vents, and a pair of one-off TLC4x4 rock sliders that pay homage to the perforated side skirts often seen on Outlaw-style Porsche customs. Rounding out the exterior is all-new trim, new door handles, upgraded LED lighting throughout, and a hidden backup camera. Moving inside, the interior of the Land Cruiser has been trimmed in Relicate Leather with Houndstooth inserts — an homage to the iconic Pepita Houndstooth fabric found in ‘60s era Porsches — and fitted with modified FJ62 door panels that also pay tribute to 911 interiors of yesteryear. Other updates to the cabin include an FJ60 headliner, custom in-house engineered instrumentation, and a premium audio system with a JVC head unit, Kicker KS Series speakers, and a powered subwoofer.

While TLC4x4’s Porsche-Inspired 1988 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 is already spoken for, the North Carolina shop is currently accepting commissions for frame-off OEM restorations and ground-up customs for FJ40, FJ45, FJ60, FJ62, FJ80, and FZJ80 Land Cruisers, with prices starting from $250,000.
