9 Summer Pieces You Can Still Wear In Autumn

Tissot debuts the Forged Carbon variant of the PRX 40, for a stealthy and modern aesthetic for your wrist.
In 2021, Tissot broke the mold with the launch of its flagship PRX range, which has since been tapped plenty of times by the Swiss brand as a versatile template for an array of references and special editions. The PRX can be both playful and serious, bold and understated, luxurious and affordable, but never boring. This week, Tissot heads back to the well once more for a marvelous forged carbon edition of the PRX 40.
As you’ve likely noticed, watches and their cases can come in all sorts of materials, from titanium to ceramic to sapphire crystal. However, one of the most practical (and modern) case materials employed in timepieces today is carbon fiber.
Already widely used in the aerospace and automotive industries, carbon fiber and forged carbon (i.e., pieces of carbon composite pressed into place) have become widespread in the EDC and watchmaking space in recent years.
Not only does the material have its advocates because of its aesthetic appeal but forged carbon also benefits from its incredible tensile strength and low weight. At its best, the material can be five times stronger than steel. Likewise, unlike titanium, carbon composite is malleable, which makes it easy to work with. However, due to its complicated manufacturing processing and refinement, carbon fiber as a material can make watches rather pricey.
The PRX is available in both 35mm and 40mm versions, but for this release, Tissot has gone with the larger of the two. While forged carbon has been used by the brand in the past with its Sideral collection, this is its debut in the PRX. And it also takes on a monochromatic look compared to the colorful Siderals.
Employed for both its dial and case, forged carbon also allows each individual piece to feature a unique visual design. As a whole, the PRX 40 Forged Carbon will have similar dimensions as the steel versions, with the exception of its 11.2mm thickness, up from 10.9mm. Otherwise, the case is 40mm across with black steel around the exhibition caseback and 100m of water resistance. Its adorned with a black textured rubber strap too.
Inside you can see the famed Powermatic 80 Si (designating a silicon hairspring), which is an automatic movement with 80 hours of power reserve. The date aperture also evolves a bit with its white numerals over a black background.
