The Importance of Prioritizing Your Partner in Your Relationship – Dating Relationship Coaching & Advice

Welcome to Dear sybersue. Today’s topic: The Importance of Prioritizing Your Partner in Your Relationship.

This is a necessary discussion because life should never be too busy that you stop creating quality time to nurture your relationship. Some people have way too many expectations when it comes to being in a partnership but you should always expect to feel like you are one another’s top priority.

The key to any successful relationship is prioritizing your partner.

Steps to Ensure Your Partner Feels Valued in Your Relationship.

  • You chose each other to share your life with, so it is important to show continued respect in the highest regard. We all have busy lives, and many people have demanding jobs where there are occasional deadlines that will have to become the priority. It can be a big juggling act, but that doesn’t mean you ignore your partner while this transpires.
  • Learning how to make your relationship work by compromising and not shutting each other out is imperative. It is important to make time during your busy schedule and to include your partner in your day.
  • Sit down and share what you are dealing with during those hectic times. Your partner may offer valuable insight that can help alleviate problematic concerns.
  • You chose each other for what you both bring to the relationship, so always take the time to listen to one another. Their feedback is valuable and should be respected because they only ever have your best interest at heart.

You can always tell when a couple is close in their partnership because they continually support one another with whatever is going on in their lives. They make their partner feel heard, which strengthens the relationship. When this is a prioritized practice, it is a peaceful place to come home to. You not only love each other but you like each other too!

Some couples become lethargic in their relationships and take each other for granted.

This is a big mistake because it ends up feeling like you’re living separately from your partner due to their other priorities. Couples who understand how important it is to put each other first, are the ones who have a balanced and harmonious relationship. There is a reciprocated, communicative and supportive love that keeps evolving for many years.

When you’re on the right path in a great relationship, there aren’t a lot of questions regarding where you stand in your partnership because you give priority to one another regularly. Doing little things for your partner and showing unconditional love automatically keeps the romance in a happy place. It’s always nice to know that you are in each other’s thoughts throughout the day.

Just to be clear I’m not saying that prioritizing your partner means giving them attention 24/7, it just means that you both make an effort to find symmetry between work and your personal lives. Planning something on the calendar ahead of time when you both have a busy week, is not only important, it is something you can both look forward to as a couple. Many benefits come from putting your partner first in your relationship!

Please ensure that you prioritize each other in a reciprocated manner.

Be careful that you don’t take on the caregiver role and leave your own needs on the back burner to make things easier for your partner. You always want to have a mutual appreciation for each other and no one should be taking their partner for granted.

Be alert and very aware when your schedule starts to become too much and takes over your life. This will cause conflict in your relationship if your partner is regularly sitting around waiting for you to free up some time to spend with you.

You both need to have boundaries, adhere to them, and be openly communicative with any concerns that may be taking place. Many couples make the mistake of letting things fester for far too long before they discuss the problem.

You not only need to respect your relationship, you need to respect yourself at the same time.

It is also important to have some quality independent alone time but this should be discussed with your partner so that it gives them the same option. This should be discussed and mutually agreed upon as a couple.

Be emotionally available to one another and be open to discussing any feelings of discontentment. When you’re able to talk frankly together, you can repair things before they escalate into a bigger issue.

Take time every day to sit down and talk about your goals, and any career/personal aspirations you would like to fulfil in the future. Make sure that you’re both on board and agreeable with those important relationship topics. You don’t want to be the last person to know that there are big changes on the horizon.

How can prioritizing your partner improve your relationship?

How do you know if you are prioritizing your partner enough? When your partner feels seen and heard, it allows an open path to have a deeper connection and build a stronger bond. When you are appreciated in your relationship you feel valued and respected.

It takes work to stay connected in a long-term commitment but some people become lethargic and forget to nurture their love. One of the main consequences of not prioritizing your partner can be the demise of your relationship.

Tips for Keeping Your Partner a Priority

  1. Kiss your partner hello and goodbye every day. Greet each other when you come home with a hug.
  2. Sit down for 30 minutes before or after dinner and share a conversation about your day. Keep each other in the loop about what unfolded, good or difficult. They may be able to offer suggestions that can help you with any problems that are occurring.
  3. Share meal preparation as a team or take turns planning dinners during the week. Talk to each other at the dinner table without any distractions. Restrict phones and TV during this time so you have each other’s full attention.
  4. Always make an effort to look nice for one another. You want your partner to stay attracted to you! Unfortunately, people often become complacent and don’t take the time to do this, which is a mistake! One of my YouTube videos that received the highest number of comments was titled: “I am not physically attracted to my partner anymore.” It is not that difficult to spend a few minutes each day to put energy into your appearance.
  5. Plan regular date nights and mark them on the calendar.
  6. Buy little gifts for no reason.
  7. Leave sexy post-it notes or send a romantic text during the day.
  8. Kiss your partner passionately once every day.
  9. Keep the intimacy consistent between you. Sex is important and keeps a couple connected over the years. Come to a compromise that works for you both.
  10. Compliment each other regularly.
  11. Have each other’s back and do not bad mouth your partner to others. Share your concerns with them, not your friends or family.
  12. Have fun together! Couples who play together stay together!
