The 2025 BMW M2 Coupe Gets an Increase in Power

With so much hype about each marque’s latest electric or hybrid model coming to market, BMW reminds us that it still has some gas left in the tank for good ol’ combustion engines. 2023 marked the inaugural model year for the second-gen M2 and it continues to impress with subtle improvements each and every year. The Bavarian marque just announced its 2025 model and we wanted to dig a bit deeper into what we can expect…

What’s Under the Hood?

Just like the previous models, the 2025 version of the sports coupe runs on a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with twin turbochargers for a 20-hp improvement over its predecessor, now getting 473hp, along with 406lb.ft of torque for the six-speed manual version or 443lb.ft for the automatic standard M2. According to BMW, the manual vehicle has a 0-to-60 of 4.1 seconds, which is slightly longer than the 3.9 seconds before.

Seeing as this is a road-ready sports car with some serious daily driver potential, there’s still no word yet on mileage, but the standard 2024 model gave you 16mpg in the city and 24mpg on the highway (23mpg with manual transmission). However, with the improved accelerator mapping this time around, the M2 showcases more rapid reactions to the driver’s acceleration requests.

Some New Colors and Cosmetics

Along with engine upgrades, BMW has also significantly expanded the color palette of the M2’s exterior, which now includes Sao Paulo Yellow, Vegas Red metallic, Portimao Blue metallic, Skyscraper Grey metallic, Frozen Pure Grey metallic, and Frozen Portimao Blue II metallic, along with BMW Individual paint finishes in Java Green metallic, Voodoo Blue, Grigio Telesto Pearl Effect metallic, and Twilight Purple Pearl Effect metallic. Black-finished exhaust tips now come standard, as does the black and silver badging on the front and rear.

There’s also a newly designed standard-fitted M leather steering wheel, which is heated and features a new spoke design and flat-bottomed rim. There’s also a red center marker, gearshift paddles, and a pair of buttons for selecting preconfigured vehicle setups. It will complement your seating options, which are a black Vernasca leather M Sport seat with red stitching or the M Carbon bucket seats, which are available as a standalone option for the first time.

A New Operating System

Advancing to the new iDrive 8.5 operating system, the 2025 M2 gets a large 14.9-inch touchscreen in front, which handles the infotainment system and gets incorporated with the 12.3-inch dashboard display screen with a customizable gauge cluster. The major update here is the transition of the climate control features to touchscreen and/or voice commands. So basically, no more physical buttons for these controls. There is also the option for head-up display and 5G connectivity.
