TAG Heuer’s Latest Carrera Release Takes This Thrilling Collection To The Extreme

Since their debut, TAG Heuer Carreras have been all about pushing the limits, and the Swiss brand’s latest Carrera releases promise cutting-edge technology with TAG Heuer’s signature style and precision.

Inspired by the legendary Carrera Panamericana Road race, known for its high-adrenaline thrills and challenging conditions, the Carreras have always maintained a status of reverence and enduring appeal; the ultimate dream piece for motorsport enthusiasts.

The Carreras have worn many faces since then, with iconic iterations such as the Carrera 160 Years Silver, the Carrera Heuer 02T, and the Carrera Plasma. Each model builds on the legacy of precision and performance, embodying the spirit of the race that inspired them.

Of course, modern iterations like the Australian-inspired Sydney exclusive and the unmissable Porsche collaboration have taken centre stage, with TAG Heuer enthusiasts spoilt for choice with contemporary Carrera classics… and TAG’s latest drop is taking things to another extreme.

TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph

First up, TAG Heuer has released four new models to one of the Swiss brand’s perennial crowd-pleasers: the Carrera Chronograph. Each piece comes in at a considerable 44mm diameter and boasts a unique blend of colour and material innovation.

The first three models in the collection feature fine-brushed and sandblasted grade-2 titanium cases with sandblasted ceramic bezels for durability and a modern look. The fourth model has 18K 5N solid rose gold barrels, gold lugs, and a ceramic bezel, combined with a grade-2 titanium central body.

Yet on all four models (and the tourbillon), TAG Heuer has reimagined the modern Carrera’s distinctive skeleton dial, either with rhodium or NAC-plating and featuring bold black lines for improved legibility. It’s a striking facade from the Swiss brand; an elevated look on one of TAG Heuer’s most popular collections that offers a glimpse into the Maison’s intricate inner workings.

Look closer, TAG Heuer has introduced embedded subdials at 3 and 6 o’clock, layered with an open-worked date disc to mimic the inside of a high-powered engine, further positioning this 2024 release within the thrilling paradigms of the racetrack.

TAG Heuer’s new Chronographs house the TH20-00 movement, a bidirectional automatic winding system that ensures improved energy management and winding regardless of the rotor’s direction of movement. With an 80-hour power reserve, the Chronograph will continue to run accurately for more than three days without any winding.

TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Extreme Sport

Also presented in a 44mm case, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Extreme Sport is available in two distinct colourways. The first is an all-black design: black flange, black open-worked “azuré” minute chronograph counter, black skeleton dial, and black integrated rubber strap.

It’s a clean and striking look, and I have to say I’m a big fan. The polished indices and subdials provide a sharp contrast to the overall facade, adding depth and elegance.

The second piece TAG Heuer has unveiled is another showstopper and one for the guys who like a bit of bling. This watch has the same fine brushed-grained black skeleton dial, but the subdials at the 3, 6 and 9, the indices, case and tachymetre are all produced with 18K 5N rose gold.

Under the hood, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Extreme Sport features the brand’s advanced TH20-09 in-house calibre. This movement offers a vertical clutch, column wheel, a new shield-shaped rotor, bidirectional automatic rewinding, and an impressive 65-hour power reserve.

These stunning timepieces will be available at TAG Heuer boutiques and online from 5 September, with prices starting at around $44,000 AUD for the black model and $55,500 AUD for the rose gold.
