F45 Review: Over 300 Classes And Counting…
Nov 23, 2024Seiko Presage Cocktail Time SRPK93 Night-time Tokyo
Seiko aims to capture Tokyo’s skyline at night with the latest Presage Cocktail Time release.
Impressively, Seiko has been able to distance its classy, dial-focused dress watches apart from its former sub-label Grand Seiko, who’s objectively more renowned for these types of timepieces. However, most watch enthusiasts are still highly smitten with Seiko’s Presage line — most notably the Cocktail Time series, which now features a new edition inspired by Tokyo’s nightlife in collaboration with STAR BAR owner Hisashi Kishi.
While special, vintage-focused Presage models like Craftsmanship 110th Anniversary or the ‘60s Style SRPH95 showcase the versatility of the Presage range, Cocktail Time conveys its essence as a dress watch.
The Cocktail Time series actually predates the Presage line, which didn’t debut until 2016. It was in 2010 that Seiko was first inspired by mixology and the local cocktail lounge scene in Tokyo to create the Cocktail Time watches. Turning into a cult favorite, Cocktail Time got its own series in 2017 under the Presage line and continues to wow onlookers.
Known for its elegant sunray engraved dials, high domed box crystals, and unique hour marker designs, the watches are often inspired by specific drinks but have reached a little further at times too. Meanwhile, the overall aesthetic is the perfect touch of class to evoke the lounges themselves.
Following the classic Cocktail Time template, the new collaboration with STAR BAR changes things a bit with its gradient gray dial and scratch texturing to evoke the Tokyo skyline at night and the hustle and bustle that are held in its midst. The dial is also complemented by gold-colored hands and indices, as well as gold on the outside rim of the date window.
Aside from the dial design, the SRPK93 model is business as usual with its polished 40.5mm stainless steel case housing the typical in-house caliber 4R35 automatic movement, which can be viewed through the caseback. Lastly, the watch is adorned with a steel bracelet with a folding clasp.
To join the watch release, STAR BAR owner Hisashi Kishi created a cocktail called Night-time Tokyo. Also, there’s a small women’s watch with the same dial pattern (SRE015), but with a diamond-like pattern cut into the inner side of the crystal.
