With over 1,900hp on tap and a 0-60mph time of 1.81 seconds, the fully-electric Rimac Nevera already represented one of the world’s quickest and most powerful hypercars. Despite the EV hypercar’s world-class capabilities, the performance-obsessed team at Rimac opted to return to the drawing board in order to squeeze even more power of the its quad-motor setup. And after months of development, the Croatian car-maker has now revealed the fruits of their labor with the new Rimac Nevera R.
Even Better Bodywork
Though it looks extremely similar to the regular Nevera, the R-spec benefits from a host of tweaks and weight-saving measures including modified all-carbon fiber bodywork that allow it to be 10% more aerodynamically efficient and boast 15% more downforce. In total, Rimac actually says that only 30% of the original hypercar’s parts are retained by the new R-spec.
Redesigned Powertrain
Under the proverbial hood, the Nevera R boasts a quad-motor powertrain just like the regular Nevera, however, the R-spec’s e-motors are completely redesigned — as is the powertrain’s 108 kWh battery pack which was developed for use on the track and uses nickel-manganese-cobalt chemistry. The battery also has a peak charging rate of 500 kilowatts and a range of somewhere between 200 and 250 miles.
Just like the regular version of the Nevera, what really makes Rimac’s new Nevera R so special is its power and straight-line speed. Thanks to its new e-motors, the EV hypercar cranks out 2,107hp. Rimac hasn’t cited torque figures but I imagine it’s in the ballpark of 1,850 to 2,000ft-lbs.
These otherworldly power figures allow the Nevera R to do 0-60mph in 1.74 seconds, do 0-186mph in 8.66 seconds, and reach a top speed of 256mph. Truly insane. In fact, Rimac claims these figures also make the Nevera R the world’s first and only car that can accelerate faster than it decelerates/brakes — an area made all the more impressive by how efficient its EVO2 carbon-ceramic brakes are.
