RAM Rolls Out Range-Topping 2025 1500 RHO Pickup

Though Ford’s F-150 Raptor was once the undisputed leader in its class, the high-performance truck space has grown markedly more competitive over the last few years alone, with an ever-increasing number of super-premium, factory-kitted, off-road-ready pickups available straight off the showroom floor. And while there’s no denying how much Ram Trucks shook up the segment with the release of the 1500 TRX, the approximately six-figure price tag of Ram’s lifted and kitted go-anywhere truck meant that it was out of the reach of your average buyer.

Well aware of this reality, the Stellantis-owned outfit has returned to the drawing board to deliver a more accessibly-priced yet still thoroughly high-performance turnkey off-roader in the form of the all-new 2025 Ram 1500 RHO.

Goodbye HEMI, Hello Hurricane

Touted as a “Sport Performance Truck” — or “SPT” — the Ram 1500 RHO replaces the outgoing 1500 TRX as the marque’s range-topping 1500 truck trim. Presumably short for “Rhino” — based on the fact that was the RHO’s internal codename for the project — the RHO-spec maintains a great many of the features and hardware that were present on the TRX. The biggest change is found under the hood.

The RHO jettisons the TRX’s supercharged 6.2-liter V8 in favor of the new twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter “Hurricane” straight-six engine, which makes 540hp and 521ft-lbs of torque. This is a notable step down from the TRX’s 700+ horsepower output, however, the RHO still manages to clock a 4.6-second 0-60mph time, which is only 0.1 seconds slower than the TRX. It’s also worth mentioning that the 1500 RHO’s 540 horses trumps the F-150 Raptor’s output by 90hp — while costing quite a bit less.

Lighter Weight & Higher Towing Capacity Than The TRX

What’s more, not only is the RHO 150lbs lighter than the TRX, but it also boasts greater towing and payload capacities (of 9,340lbs versus 8,100lbs, and 1,520lbs versus 1,310lbs). This means the Ram 1500 RHO not only affords better horsepower per dollar than any other premium off-road full-size pickup truck, but it also makes the RHO model the strongest Ram 1500 of all time. Distinguishing it further from the TRX model is an all-new grille design, new bumper, and updated LED lighting throughout.

Not unlike its TRX-spec predecessor, Ram’s new 1500 RHO comes loaded with a host of tech and features that are typically reserved for sports cars. This includes nine different drive modes, launch control, 12-way power heated leather-trimmed front bucket seats, dual 5” sport exhaust tips, a leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel with aluminum paddle shifters, and a 12” driver digital display cluster supplemented via an available 10.25” front passenger touchscreen display.

Off-Roading Is In Its DnA

Unsurprisingly, the RHO-spec 1500 still offers some seriously impressive off-roading capabilities, with 11.8” of ground clearance, 13” of suspension travel up front, and 14” out back. A major part of the pickups’s go-anywhere capabilities are owed to its top-of-the-line pressurized nitrogen gas-charged Bilstein Black Hawk e2 Shock System, which actively monitors speed, throttle position, braking pressure, torque, and steering angle in order to optimize performance at all times, regardless of conditions or terrain. Further bolstering this area is a high-speed E-Locker rear axle, fender flares at all four corners, and available 18” beadlock-capable wheels shod in beefy 35” off-road tires.

Other highlights include a digital smartphone key, a digital rearview mirror, an available 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system, and a slew of high-tech assists and safety features such as hands-free active driving assist, evasive steering assist, intersection collision assist, traffic sign recognition, and drowsy driver detection, just to name a few. Combine this bevy of tech, off-roading abilities, and creature comforts, and you’ve collectively got a true do-it-all full-size pickup that’s just as capable of handling workhorse duties or daily driving as it is tearing up the sand dunes or trails.

2025 Ram RHO Pricing & Availability

Available for order now with deliveries expected to commence in Q3 of this year, the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO has been priced starting from $69,995 — making it roughly $10,000 cheaper than Ford’s F-150 Raptor, and even a few grand under Toyota’s Tundra TRD Pro.

2025 Ram RHO

Taking aim squarely at Ford’s F-150 Raptor with more power and a lower price tag, the new Ram 1500 RHO replaces the marque’s six-figure 1500 TRX as its range-topping turnkey off-road truck. Though it does away with the TRX’s supercharged HEMI engine, the RHO-spec’s 540-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six “Hurricane” engine affords comparable performance along with the best towing and payload capacities of any Ram 1500 ever.
