Since Porsche rolled out its inaugural protection turbo 911 variant back in 1974, the flagship sports car has has experienced some enormous leaps and bounds, with each new generation ushering in improved hardware — culminating most recently with the 640-hp 992.1 911 Turbo S. With 2024 marking half-a-century since the first turbo 911’s debut, the Stuttgart has opted to mark the occasion via a limited edition run of 911 Turbo 50 Years cars.
Special Edition Details
On the side of the limited edition are decals inspired by the motif that adorned Porsche’s fabled 911 RSR Turbo — I.e. the model that served as the inspiration for what would become the brand’s inaugural 911 Turbo. On top of its 911 Turbo S Exclusive Design wheels, the limited edition’s rear deck-lid inlays, fuel cap, and Porsche crest all come finished in a coat of Turbonite — a color reserved exclusively for this Porsche Turbo model.
This unique hue is contrasted via a rear wing, lower rear fascia, exterior mirror base, and air intake grilles that all come cloaked in an Anthracite Grey livery. There’s also a special badge on the rear decklid grille with “1974-2024” text and a turbocharger icon — the latter of which is also projected onto the ground when the doors are ajar. Each of the limited edition sports cars are being offered with an optional Heritage Design Package that boasts a myriad of exclusive details and amenities all inspired by the original Type 930 turbo models.
’70s Style Cabin
Moving inside, the 911 Turbo 50 Years’ cabin features seat and door panel inserts upholstered in “MacKenzie“ tartan, an aluminum anniversary plaque just above the glove compartment, a Porsche Design sub-second clock in a specific “turbo 50“ design, and A-pillars, sun visors, and a roof liner all trimmed in perforated Race-Tex.
Turbonite also adorns various interior trim elements such as the seat belts, contrast stitching, and the Porsche crest on the steering wheel. There’s also brushed aluminum door sill guards with illuminated “turbo 50“ logos that are also stitched into the headrests of the limited edition’s Adaptive Sport Seats Plus — which come as standard on the Turbo 50 Years-spec.
Powering the car is a VTG-twin-turbocharged 3.7-liter six-cylinder boxer engine that’s bolted to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and puts down 640hp and 590ft-lbs of torque. When coupled with the car’s 3,649-pound curb weight, the thing can do 0-60mph in a staggering 2.6 seconds — placing it squarely into true supercar territory. Like the now half-century-old forced induciton model that it’s paying homage to, the 911 Turbo 50 Years aims to deliver track-ready performance while still being daily-drivable through and through.
Laundry List Of Standard Equipment
Helping to further distinguish it from its non-limited-edition Turbo model counterparts is a generous slew of equipment that all comes as standard. This includes Porsche Traction Management, active all-wheel drive, a sport exhaust system with black tailpipes, Porsche Active Suspension Management, sport suspension that’s been lowered by 10mm, a front-axle lift system, tinted LED Matrix design headlights with Dynamic Light System Plus, and black brake calipers.
The 911 Turbo 50 Years Timepiece
To go along with the car, Porsche Design has whipped up a matching titanium-cased limited edition chronograph offered exclusively to buyers of the 911 Turbo 50 Years. This special edition Chronograph 911 Turbo 50 Years is kept ticking via a COSC-certified Porsche Design caliber WERK 01.200 movement with and a winding rotor, modeled after the 911 Turbo 50 Years’ wheels.
