For the first time since 2018, Porsche is putting on its Rennsport Reunion at the world-famous Laguna Seca race track in Northern California, where an expected 80,000 attendees will take part in celebrating the Stuttgart firm’s 75th anniversary — and the 60th anniversary of its legendary 911. The automaker has also opted to utilize the Rennsport Reunion 7 event to debut what’s undoubtedly one of its most noteworthy releases in recent history with the new Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport. 

Based on the 911 GT3 R that Porsche debuted back in late July, the 911 GT3 R rennsport is an ultra-high-performance single-seater, track-only race car that isn’t hampered or hamstrung by the usual GT3 class rules and regulations imposed by the FIA. Designed by Grant Larson and Thorsten Klein from the Style Porsche team and described by the pair as “the logical successor to the modern Porsche 935,” the rennsport-spec 911GT3 R is powered by a modified version of the regular GT3 R-spec’s naturally-aspirated 4.2-liter straight-six. Revving at up to 9,400rpm, this water-cooled six-cylinder mill features pistons and camshafts that were developed specifically for the GT3 R rennsport and allow it to crank out 611hp — 53hp more than the GT3 R, and a boost in power the allows for a top-speed that’s 12.4mph faster than the normal GT3 R’s 184mph limit. Equipped with a fully unrestricted race exhaust that culminates in a set of centrally positioned twin tailpipes, the engine also comes mated to a sequential six-speed constant-mesh gearbox that’s controlled via steering wheel paddles linked to an electronic gearshift actuator. 

Weighing just 2,733.7lbs at the curb, the car rides on a set of special center-locking 18” BBS racing wheels and sports an AP aluminum monobloc racing brake system with titanium backing plate-equipped brake pads. Adorned in a special model-exclusive set of aero-kitted bodywork that includes a bevy of redesigned intakes, fins, and a massive rear wing, the 911 GT3 R rennsport features an advanced suspension setup comprised of a state-of-the-art double wishbone suspension unit in front and a multi-link unit in the rear. The vehicle also benefits from five-way adjustable KW racing shock absorbers with a blow-off function. Replacing the vehicle’s normal side and rear-view mirrors are a trio of embedded cameras that relay feeds to in-cockpit monitors. Bestowed with color-adjustable main headlights and ambient lighting that adopts the same hue, this limited edition 911 also gets a partially-rigid roll cage and a 30.9-gallon FT3.5 safety fuel tank. 

Limited to only 77 units worldwide, the 2024 Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport has been priced at $1,046,000 — a figure that doesn’t include the cost of transport, options, or any applicable taxes.
