Oris Puts Its Caliber 400 Movement into Its Divers Sixty-Five 38mm

Back in 2015, Oris decided to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its inaugural dive watch by reviving it. Dubbed the Divers Sixty-Five, this was an automatic watch powered by a Sellita movement and featuring a funky vintage dial design. And best of all, it only cost a couple thousand bucks. Over the years, the Divers Sixty-Five has evolved a bit, especially when it fitted its own in-house Caliber 400 movement in place of the outsourced one. It was still wearable at 40mm across but now the Swiss watchmaker has added a 38mm version to its permanent range for the first time.

Oris Divers Sixty-Five Caliber 400 38mm Basics

After listening to customer feedback, Oris hasn’t just reduced the case size but also removed the date window as well. Now, all 12 applied hour markers are present in lumed indices and placed on the classy gradient green dial. It’s all surrounded by a marvelous sandblasted bezel in stainless steel with a 60-minute relief design. The numerals and markers are polished to complement the brushed case and matching 3-link stainless steel bracelet.

In case you’re wondering, this isn’t the first 38mm Divers Sixty-Five 400 Cal. to be made. Back in 2021, Hodinkee partnered with Oris for a limited-edition run featuring a 38mm version of the dive watch. However, that sold out rather quickly and we can be sure this new release will be unlimited in edition size. Also, the admittedly modest 100m of water resistance is retained despite the reduced case diameter.

The Movement

Visible through the caseback is the aforementioned Caliber 400, an in-house automatic movement with a whopping 120 hours of power reserve — that’s 5 days, folks! COSC-certified, the caliber gets its longevity from twin barrels and a silicone escapement. It features more than 30 anti-magnetic components, the caliber surpasses the ISO 764 standard for anti-magnetism. If that’s not enough, it’s also backed by a 10-year warranty and comes with 10-year service intervals.
