Omega and Swatch Debut All-Black MoonSwatch Snoopy Edition

In case you haven’t had too much of Omega and Swatch’s MoonSwatch variants, these two horological juggernauts continue to raise expectations seemingly with each new release, with over a dozen out since its debut two years ago. A couple of weeks back, the two watchmakers broke the internet with a special all-white Snoopy edition of the lunar-inspired timepiece. It was arguably the biggest release since the very first MoonSwatch in 2022 and the first in anything other than black or (in one instance) dark blue. Today, the Mission to Moonphase MoonSwatch Snoopy Edition returns, but this time it’s all blacked out.

Before we get into the new release, let’s take a look at the cartoon dog’s significance with Omega and the space industry in general. Since 1968, NASA has given a highly-coveted Silver Snoopy Award to individuals and organizations for outstanding achievement related to mission success or human flight safety. Omega was crowned the award in 1970 for providing timing instruments (aka wristwatches) for the Apollo 13 crew. The recent MoonSwatches are by far the first Omega timepieces to pay homage to the Peanuts pooch but are significant for the very fact that they’re much more affordable than a regular Snoopy Edition Moonwatch (non-Swatch), which can be yours for upwards of $10,000.

Just in time for the total solar eclipse on April 8, this all-black version of the Snoopy MoonSwatch retains the same 42mm Bioceramic case as previous MoonSwatch iterations, as well as the rest of its specs (13.75mm thickness and 47.3mm lug-to-lug). In fact, the new timepiece is essentially just an inverted version of the all-white Snoopy MoonSwatch, which includes pictures of the character sleeping on the moonphase subdial and an image of the Moon on the caseback — all the way down to the hidden dial message that glows under UV light: “I Can’t Sleep Without A Night Light!” Unlike regular black MoonSwatch models, the lugs here are blacked out as well. And it’s adorned with a black Velcro strap.

Launching on April 8, the Mission to Moonshine New Moon MoonSwatch will be priced at $310 from select Swatch boutiques.
