It’s hard to believe it’s been 17 years since Nissan first rolled out the R35-gen GT-R, as the super sports car has remained competitive since its debut, despite only receiving minor changes and updates over the last roughly decade and a half. And though there are rumors swirling that the Japanese auto marque may soon pull the plug on production of the GT-R, the company is giving the car one final sendoff in the form of a limited edition run of R35 GT-Rs for the 2025 model year — though it will sadly only be offered in Japan.
The changes to the 2025 model year lineup are minimal, with the Premium Edition (the base model on U.S. shores) receiving a new Blue Heaven interior colorway while the higher-specced Track Edition engineered by NISMO and T-Spec variants have been bestowed with the weight-balanced piston rings, con-rods, and crankshafts that have previously only been available on the GT-R NISMO Special Edition. The T-Spec and Track Edition engineered by NISMO also come fitted with aluminum certification plates and gold-colored number plates adorning a wall of their engine bay. With the exception of the NISMO trim levels, the 2025 GT-R lineup retains last year’s iteration’s 565-hp twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6, dual-clutch transmission, Bilstein DampTronic suspension system, RAYS 20” forged alloy wheels, and ATTESA E-TS All-Wheel Drive system.
The range-topping NISMO variants gain several upgrades over the already impressive lower-trimmed versions. This includes a fully exposed carbon aero kit with a vented carbon fiber hood, a carbon fiber upper-grille surround, carbon front fender vents, a carbon roof, carbon side skirts, a carbon front spitter, a carbon diffuser with side vents, and a carbon rear wing. What’s more, in addition to a quad-tipped exhaust setup with blue’d muffler tips set in the car’s carbon diffuser, these NISMO GT-R models also get a revised front-end with relocated foglights set in carbon surrounds that are shared by the NISMO-spec’s front intakes. Other noteworthy elements include NISMO Recaro leather seats, high-performance 1.5-way mechanical limited-slip differentials fore and aft, Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, NISMO-spec suspension, and a NISMO-tuned version of the regular GT-R’s twin-turbo V6 that now cranks out 600hp and 481ft-lbs of torque.
Offered exclusively in the Japanese marque’s native market, the JDM-only 2025 Nissan GT-R R35 is scheduled for a release in June of this year. Prices start at ¥14,443,000 (~ $96,900) for the GT-R Pure Edition and goes up to ¥30,613,000 (~ $205,400) for the range-topping GT-R NISMO Special Edition.
