The very first Nike Pegasus celebrated its 40th-anniversary last year, and it’s a bit like the underrated running equivalent of the AJ1; it inspired dozens of follow-ups, was beloved in the running community, and remains a cult classic to this day. The Pegasus 40s were also released last year and paved the way for the upcoming Pegasus 41s, the first silhouette in the lineup to be made with ReactX foam, delivering that same soft responsiveness that the Pegasus is known for.
Building on the Pegasus 40, the Pegasus 41’s biggest upgrades are the full-length ReactX foam in the midsole and the forefoot, and the Air Zoom units in the heel. The addition of ReactX Foam gives you 13 percent more energy return compared to traditional React foam, according to Nike, and works with the Air units for some of the best cushioning and energy return you can get in a running shoe. Another major update for this silhouette is the upper, which has been redesigned (with research and feedback in mind) to be more breathable and lightweight. The Dynamic Midfoot Fit system has the laces tied directly to a band that wraps around the whole foot, and both the forefoot and heel are wider for more stability.
The addition of ReactX foam also cuts down carbon emissions by 43% compared to regular React foam, so not only does this mark another chapter for the Pegasus lineup, but it also moves Nike closer toward its goal of reducing its carbon footprint by 63% by 2030 and reaching net zero by 2050.
The Nike Pegasus 41 is slated to drop pretty soon here in June (in the “Volt” colorway, as you can see here), and you can keep your eyes peeled for more details about pricing (and a firm release date) over on Nike’s official channels.
