Merrell introduced the Moab Speed lineup all the way back in 2021, doubling down on its blend of lifestyle aesthetics with outdoor reliability and building on one of its best-selling boot silhouettes, the Moab. It wasn’t until two years later, at the beginning of last year, that Merrell updated the silhouette with a GORE-TEX lining. Now that the Speed 2s are officially here, Merell wasted no time adding a GORE-TEX option to the lineup, and the Merrell Moab Speed 2 GORE-TEX is officially here, adding waterproof protection to the versatile hikers. 

Building off of the Speed 2s, you’re getting the same custom Vibram TC5+ outsole and FlexPlate technology for stability on the trails, but this time, the nylon ripstop and TPU uppers are covered in a GORE-TEX membrane. Now, you’re getting the trusted support of the OG silhouette with waterproof protection, along with recycled laces, webbing, and mesh footbed cover. The FloatPro midsole has also been updated, now boasting 30% more foam than the OG Speed silhouette for even more support. Extra details include the Cleansport NXT treatment for odor control, and Vibram traction lugs that are made to increase traction and filter out debris as you hike. 

The Moab Speed 2s are available in the Coyote, Rye, Asphalt, Black (featured here), Black/White, Clay, and Steel Blue colorways (and the women’s silhouette offers seven more for a total of fourteen). Unfortunately, these aren’t vegan-friendly like the non-GORE-TEX Speed 2s, but they’re still sustainably made with a mostly recycled construction. They’re equipped with a moderate trail rating as well, so you’re good to wear them on trails with obstacles and moderate debris.

The Merrell Moab Speed 2 GORE-TEX is available now for $170. The silhouette is also offered in a wide width for no extra charge, along with a mid-cut option for $180.
