First debuting at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019, McLaren’s GT is a grand-touring-style supercar model that shares much of its platform with the brand’s 720S. And after roughly half-a-decade in production, the British marque is now phasing out its inaugural GT model for the new and improved McLaren GTS.
The McLaren GTS is pieced together around a carbon fibre MonoCell II-T monocoque chassis that’s been draped in redesigned carbon bodywork and paired with a double aluminum wishbone suspension setup with adaptive dampers. At the heart of the GTS is a 4.0-liter V8 that’s been fitted with a pair of electrically-actuated twin scroll turbochargers and McLaren’s seven-speed “seamless shift” gearbox. Good for 626hp and 465ft-lbs of torque, the GTS is able to deliver a 3.2-second 0-60mph time, plus can clock quarter mile runs in 11 seconds flat and achieve a top speed of 203mph. This not only makes the GTS faster and more powerful than the GT, but with a curb weight of just 3,351lbs, it’s also lighter.
Offered with several new rim options including a new ten-arm “turbine” wheel design, the GTS’ exterior design has been tweaked, and now features a static aero kit with a remodeled front end and modified tail. There are also several new paint color options being introduced on the GTS. Inside, the car gets aniline leather and Alcantara upholstery complemented via a new piping pattern. What’s more, despite being a supercar, this S-spec grand tourer offers a collective 20 cubic feet of storage space between its rear cargo area and front trunk. Other noteworthy hardware and features include dedicated sport and track modes, carbon Ceramic brakes with six-piston calipers, an improved front axle-lift system, and an open differential.
The 2024 McLaren GTS is scheduled to begin deliveries next year, and while pricing has yet to be revealed, we anticipate an MSRP just a bit north of the $200,000 mark.
