Lotus Unleashes the All-Electric 2024 Emeya Hyper GT Car

For the three quarters of a century that the marque has been in operation, Lotus has exclusively traded in high-performance lightweight sports cars. Back in 2016 the company announced that it would be stepping outside of its comfort zone and venturing into previously uncharted territory with the development of its first-ever sport utility vehicle — a project that would give way to Lotus’s all-electric Eletre SUV earlier this year. And after bringing its hyper SUV to market, Lotus has now revealed yet another unexpected automotive release with the debut of its all-new Emeya electric grand tourer.

Representing Lotus’ first-ever four-door hyper-GT, the Emeya aims to deliver a more practical, daily-drivable platform while still maintaining the world-class performance capabilities that Lotus’ cars are known for. To achieve this, the Emeya has been bestowed with an electronically controlled air suspension system that utilizes a slew of onboard sensors that monitor road conditions 1,000 times a second in order to automatically tweak the suspension to ensure the smoothest and most planted ride possible. Boasting a low center of gravity that Lotus refers to as a “Hyperstance,” the hyper grand tourer also features a perfect 50-50 weight distribution. The car is also brought to a stop using Lotus’ own carbon ceramic braking hardware. The Emeya also features a sleek set of bodywork that’s equipped with a suite of active aerodynamic elements including an active front grille, rear diffuser and rear spoiler.

Rather than designing a new powertrain from scratch, Lotus opted to use the state-of-the-art unit found in the brand’s newly-release Eletre SUV. Like the Eletre SUV, the Emeya hyper GT will be offered in multiple trim levels — the highest range-topping variant of which features a dual motor set-up that cranks out up to 675kW (905hp) and 726ft-lbs of instantaneous torque. These figures ultimately allow for a best-in-class top speed of 159mph and a 0-62mph time of just 2.78 seconds — making it one of the fastest electric GTs on the planet. Benefitting from Lotus Hyper Charging and an 800-volt architecture, the Emeya draws from a battery pack that’s able to receive over 90 miles of range after only five minutes of charging, plus can get up to an 80% charge after being plugged into a 350-kW DC Fast Charger for just 18 minutes. Crafted from a combination of PVD aluminum, Alcantara, Nappa leather, and Ultrafabrics PU, the ultra-plush interior of the Emeya features carbon fiber sport seats, a flat bottom steering wheel, a massive central touchscreen display, and a KEF sound system with Dolby Atmos-enabled 3D surround sound.

While pricing for the 2024 Lotus Emeya Electric Grand Tourer has yet to be revealed, the company has announced that production is slated to begin next year. The Emeya is also part of Lotus’ larger ongoing efforts to become a global performance brand by 2028.
