We were lucky enough to take the decidedly eye-catching Lexus RZ All-Electric for a spin recently here at The Coolector and, safe to say, it is one mighty luxurious ride. As with the vast majority of all-electric vehicles, there is always that slight range anxiety issue that arises due to the underwhelming infrastructure when it comes to charging electric vehicles but the RZ more than makes up for it with its flawless performance and impressive features both inside and out.

With prices starting at just shy of £60k, you’re getting a high-level, all-electric vehicle with the RZ from Lexus and from the minute we jumped into the cockpit headed half-way across the country to Longleat, it was clear that comfort wasn’t going to be an issue during the lengthy journey. Almost eerily quiet, this glorious machine purrs into life and combines functional beauty with cutting-edge technology and it transforms the everyday drive into an extraordinary experience.

This vehicle goes beyond mere aesthetics, offering a new-era panoramic roof, distinctive L-shaped headlights, a rear lightbar, and more, epitomizing sophistication and innovation. Despite having various issues with charging the vehicle (due to the charging pods, not the vehicle) on route to our destination, the RZ performs flawlessly both on motorway roads and the more narrow backcountry roads of Wiltshire.

The New RZ has a 71.4 kWh battery that is capable of delivering a maximum range of up to 271 miles, more than adequate for a various commutes, or for a longer distance adventure. It is important to remember however that, with all-electric vehicles, the range is impacted by a number of factors, including outside temperature, use of climate control in the car, and journey type so, something that we found from experience, it’s a good idea to not sail too close to the wind when it comes to recharging your vehicle.

Boasting one of the most impressive interiors we’ve had the pleasure of driving, the RZ from Lexus is luxury personified in this regard. It joins together both unparalleled comfort with ambience to mirror the omotenashi philosophy of heartfelt hospitality. In addition, the RZ features a beautifully finished interior that really elevates the senses of drivers and passengers and anticipates needs before you know them. Impressive and relaxing in equal measure.

Equipped with a comprehensive suite of standard active safety features, the RZ enhances your peace of mind on every drive. The pre-collision system alerts you to approaching cross traffic at intersections and recognizes collision risks with oncoming traffic or crossing pedestrians when turning at junctions.

The RZ offers a refined driving experience with excellent aerodynamics, achieving superior handling stability and ride comfort. The battery, mounted under the vehicle floor, ensures a low centre of gravity. Additionally, the use of acoustic glass and meticulous insulation provides a quiet and serene journey. We really enjoyed the performance of the RZ and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to take the leap to an all-electric vehicle this summer.
