Above and beyond merely selling vehicles, Land Rover strives to connect with its customers and celebrate the various lifestyles often associated with its SUVs via the creation of special ultra-limited edition models, from the off-road-ready Camel Trophy Defenders to the Park City Edition Range Rover Sport. For its latests limited edition, the marque has opted to honor its ties to American surf and beach culture with the new Defender ‘Beach Break’ Edition.
Earlier this year, Land Rover announced that it had partnered with the Surf Lodge — an iconic hotel and restaurant nestled along the sandy shores of Montauk, New York — in order to make its Defender SUV the official vehicle for the 2024 Summer Season. And it’s this official connection to sand, sun, and surf that the British brand is now paying homage to with its latest limited edition run.
This ultra-limited edition Defender variant is based on Land Rover’s Defender 110 platform and features the model’s turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four P300 powertrain — which cranks out 296hp and 295ft-lbs of torque. The limited edition also retains the 110’s Terrain Response system — which includes a special Sand Mode — and ability to wade into the waves up to 35.4”.
The main elements that separate the ‘Beach Break’ Edition from normal Defenders models all consists of visual details. This limited edition model sports a Tasman Blue paint job contrasted via white gloss wheels and a matching white roof. The blue livery is also juxtaposed via special model-exclusive red, orange, and yellow stripe graphics adorning the doors. The words “Beach Break” complement the stripe graphics, plus the tailgate comes fitted with a “Beach Break 1/20” badge.
The entire thing rides on a set of white-finished 20-inch “Steelies” (which are actually made from aluminum) shod in all-terrain tires. All-in-all, the limited edition does a fantastic job of bestowing a thoroughly modern (and thoroughly-beach-ready) SUV with a myriad of unmistakably retro-inspired details.
In addition to its unique visual elements, the Defender ‘Beach Break’ Edition also gains a few standard amenities that normally come as available add-ons and upgrades. This includes a silver side‑mounted gear carrier, mud flaps, black fixed side steps, and cross bars.
The interior of the Defender ‘Beach Break’ Edition has also been treated to a few unique details and features, such as Light Cloud & Lunar Resist seating, plus a Light Cloud powder-coated cross vehicle beam, rubber floor and cargo area mats, a top-of-the-line Meridian Sound System, and an 11.4‑inch center touchscreen supplemented via a 12.3‑inch Interactive driver display.
