Dec 28, 20242025 INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster Kaiju
INEOS made a one-off Grenadier Quartermaster inspired by Australia’s love for Japanese off-roading SUVs, with a slew of upgrades for overlanding.
Prior to being revived in 2020, the Land Rover Defender saw what it thought was the end of its run in 2016. That’s when Sir Jim Ratcliffe had the desire to give the world another British 4×4 vehicle. He founded INEOS a couple of years later and eventually debuted the inaugural vehicle, the Grenadier luxury SUV.
The Grenadier was quickly followed by the Quartermaster pick-up truck version, which has now received a special one-off edition in Australia to pay homage to the modified overlanders built from Japanese vehicles.
The Grenadier Quartermaster Kaiju is built on the standard Quartermaster platform but has some serious upgrades for off-roading. Godzilla fans will appreciate the new SUV’s name, which translates to “mythical monster” or “giant creature” in Japanese. And this Kaiju is certainly monstrous in what it can do.
Presented in a stealthy all-black exterior coat, this is INEOS’ first-ever special projects build and taps “some of Australia’s most innovative and reputable third-party accessory suppliers.” Upgrades include extra fuel storage from a Brown Davis long-range tank that can hold 44 gallons (in addition to the 24-gallon factory tank), an integrated 44-liter water tray and canopy from Norweld, a heavy-duty aluminum cargo tray from Rhino Rack, and a handful of utility lights from STEDI.
REDARC supplies off-grid power with the auxiliary management system that includes an Alpha150 150A Lithium battery that powers a 2,000-Watt RS3 inverter. In terms of off-road capability, you’ll get BFGoodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires, a 16-stage adjustable electric shock suspension from JMACX, and MAXTRAX recovery kits that include its Universal Flat Rack mounting kit and its Beach Recovery Kit.
Nothing changes in terms of the powertrain, which is carried over from the standard Quartermaster. This includes a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine from BMW that delivers 282hp and 331lb.ft of torque. It’s mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system. Some Trailmaster edition carryovers include front and rear differential locks, raised air intake, and high-load auxiliary switch panel, a roo bar, and rock sliders.
