After a decade of ups and downs, Hyundai introduced its first-ever sport utility vehicle model in 2001 with the Santa Fe. Playing a pivotal role in the overall restructuring of the marque, the Seoul-based brand’s inaugural SUV also massively helped the Korean carmaker to better ingratiate itself with American buyers, as the Santa Fe became immensely popular in the U.S. market. Since its debut, the SUV has been produced across four generations, the latest of which broke cover in 2018. And after half-a-decade without a major model redesign, the mid-sized SUV has just been treated to a comprehensive overhaul for the all-new 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe.
Marking the first model year of the SUV’s all-new fifth-generation platform, this 2024 model year vehicle has been redesigned from scratch, taking a massive change in direction aesthetically that hugely deviates from the first four gens. Sporting some major new Defender vibes and a slight resemblance to parts of the Rivian R1S, the 2024 Santa Fe follows in the footsteps of other modern boxy and neo-retro-looking SUVs that combine old school silhouettes with contemporary design elements. Capped off with a dual moonroof top, this all-new mid-sized model sports a slew of new H-motif elements that have been incorporated into its design, both inside and out. This includes items such as the H-shaped panel at the front of the car that separates its upper and lower grille sections, as well as the headlight assembly directly above it that’s comprised of two five-unit H-shaped LEDs linked via a horizontal DRL running end-to-end.
Like a growing number of other modern sport utility vehicles, the latest Santa Fe was also engineered to be a practical daily driver, lending itself to commuting, family-hauling, and urban mobility, while also retaining some solid go-anywhere capabilities right off of the showroom floor — as the SUV’s fender flares suggest. A massive tailgate and best-in-class interior space and a second row of seats that folds flush into the floor together allow the SUV’s tailgate to open up to reveal a rear cabin that’s perfect for car camping. In addition to sporting numerous H-motif design elements, the interior also features optional Nappa leather upholstery, a 12.3” digital cluster, and a panoramic curved display, and dual wireless phone charging docks and dual cupholders that are big enough to accommodate a vacuum-insulated bottle.
Though pricing, availability, trim level options, and specs all have yet to be revealed — aside from the confirmation of an off-road-leaning XRT variant — the company has stated that the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV is slated for a world-premier in August of 2023, before eventually arriving in dealerships in Q4 of the same year.
