“How can I feel positive about being single on Valentine’s Day?” This is a question I often receive in my advice column.
Firstly, Happy Valentine’s Day! ️❤️ T️his special day is for everyone, regardless of your relationship status. Love comes in many forms which we celebrate through our family, our friendships, our children and our pets. Being in a romantic partnership does not define you. Unfortunately, this Hallmark occasion can be a difficult day for many people. I know this on a personal level as I spent many years being single on Valentine’s Day
How to Embrace Being Single on Valentine’s Day
I know the easiest thing to do is to stay home and wait for this day to be over. I did this for a few years until I smartened up and embraced Feb 14th with self-love and friendship. Creating love for yourself is so important, regardless of what day it is on the calendar.
There is a reason that Galentine’s Day became a popular phrase. Women decided to spend the day celebrating each other. This is a fabulous thing to do. It makes you appreciate the love you share with your friends and certainly takes away any feeling of loneliness. If most of your friends are in relationships, book a spa day or another type of pampering activity. Self-care is a natural mood enhancer!
What activities can singles do to enjoy Valentine’s Day?
- Plan a movie night with a friend.
- Visit your local pub. This is a great venue as most people who go there on Feb 14th will be single. It’s not usually a place that romantic couples choose to go to on that evening.
- Check out single events that are happening in your city.
- Have a potluck girl’s night at home.
- Buy yourself flowers, have a bubble bath with candlelight and a glass of wine.
- Plan a FaceTime call with a single friend who lives outside your city.
- Take a vacation to an all-inclusive single’s resort. Or go on a single’s cruise! There are many other single travel ideas online as well.
- Organize a friends group games night.
- Be grateful for what you do have in your life. Showing appreciation brings more good things your way. Being single doesn’t have to feel lonely when you have a purpose in your life. Embrace where you are at every given moment.
- Do something active that makes you feel good. Go to a yoga class or the gym. Plan a hike with a friend or a long walk. Nature is healing, and fitness releases endorphins that help boost your happiness.
Valentine’s Day can be difficult for many people due to all the hype on social media. It is a reminder that you are not in a relationship. This can tug at your heart and is the last thing you need on this day. Please remember that there is a lot of embellishment on these platforms. Not everything is as it seems. It is important not to compare yourself to anyone else. Many single men and women are also dealing with this same scenario as you are.
Stay open to love and try not to let this day bring you down.
We all meet our person at different times in our lives. I have certainly had some trying times when it comes to love and relationships. I found that the best way to navigate through some of those lonely times was by changing my attitude.
Your thoughts will directly change your path in life, whether they are positive or negative. It is always a wise choice to embrace each stage that you experience with optimism. Take the time to observe what is transpiring and remove those feelings of self-doubt or regret. You are meant to be here right now. It is OK to be single.
Sometimes you need some solitude and space to understand who you are. Giving love to yourself is just as important as showing love to a partner. The key is Knowing what is truly important to you in a partnership. This is when you will be ready to receive someone special in your life. Being single definitely has its benefits. Take this time to evolve and be the best version of yourself. Enjoy celebrating YOU today.
