Hoka's 'Best' Stability Running Shoe Just Got a Surprise Markdown, and Shoppers Say It's 'Way Better' Than Brooks

For years, the most popular stability running shoes have been the Asics Gel-Kayano, Brooks’ Adrenaline GTS, and even Saucony’s Guide. But when Hoka introduced the Arahi in 2017, the game changed forever. The brand now synonymous with lightweight running shoes and plush underfoot cushioning brought an even better feel to stability running shoes and has been making waves ever since. And though the seventh iteration of the Arahi dropped this year, Zappos just went live with a surprising and very rare discount—the first one we’ve seen for this model.

The Hoka Arahi 7 is on sale at Zappos right now for $116—a 20% discount on the normal $145 price tag. Though they’re a newer model, these stability shoes have already garnered over 150 five-star ratings from shoppers, including one who said they’ve been “way better than my previous Brooks.” Only one color—Blanc De Blanc/Virtual Blue—is available on sale, but it’s a pleasantly neutral color that’s great for everyday wear, and it’s still up for grabs in a full run of sizes from 7 to 14. For those who need a wider model, Hoka’s Gaviota 5 is another great stability shoe and is 20% off at Zappos in a similar color.

While its predecessor was a smash hit among runners who overpronate, the Arahi 7 comes with some minor upgrades. This model features a flat-knit upper, which provides a slightly better hold through the midfoot, as well as a thicker tongue with a dual gusset to prevent it from moving while you’re running. Otherwise, the shoe has largely stayed the same, which is a good thing. It still features Hoka’s J-Frame technology, a system designed to support the natural inward roll of overpronation without overcorrecting the gait, and it still has meticulously placed rubber inlays in the sole to help mitigate abrasion. And, in true Hoka fashion, it comes with a well-cushioned midsole for ample shock absorption.

Those who have made their way into the new Arahi 7 say they come with the comfort expected of Hoka’s running shoes. “I have large flat feet and I walk a lot for my job,” a shopper began. “These have been, by far, the best pair of sneakers I have had.” Another shopper agreed, saying, “As an older runner you need good support and cushioning. The Arahi 7 provides that in abundance and gives me a very supportive run without feeling big or bulky.”

Others compared their Arahi 7s to other brands they’ve tried, widely noting they’ve found a superior stability shoe. “Quite a contrast to the absurd cuts of other brands, such as Asics, Saucony, and Brooks,” a shopper said. Another shopper who jumped from Nike said, “I didn’t realize that having a wider width and a good cushioning shoe was what I was missing.”

If your foot shape or natural gait craves a little extra support when walking or running, the Hoka Arahi 7 needs to be at the top of your shopping list. Just make sure to get your size ASAP, because the sale isn’t guaranteed to last forever.
