Hamilton Adds Compass Bezel for Khaki Field Expedition Watch

Does a legendary watch have to cost you thousands of dollars? Well, if you look at Hamilton’s Khaki Field Watch, it’s clear that icon and luxury don’t have to go hand in hand. During World War II, the Pennsylvania-based watchmaker shut down its civilian operation to make its GG-W-113 explicity for the United States Army, aiding them in defeating the Axis Powers. While the industry tends to toss around the word “iconic,” there’s not balking in its designation when referring to the GG-W-113. In 2017, the watch was reissued as the Khaki Field Watch and has since provided a base for several iterations, including this new Expedition variant.

Available in 37mm and 41mm case sizes, the Khaki Field Expedition is just as robust as the standard Khaki Field Watch while adding a rotating compass bezel to help you guide your way through the wilderness (or to simply look cool). To use the function in the Northern Hemisphere, you face the watch’s hour hand towards the sun and then turn the bezel’s “S” marker so that it’s halfway between the hour hand and 12 o’clock. Pretty handy, yeah?

As far as looks are concerned, the Expedition comes in three dial colors — black, white, and blue — with leather straps in tow, except for the black dial version which also has a stainless steel bracelet option. From a design standpoint, the dial is reminiscent of the Khaki Field Murph watches from last year, with the removal of the 24-hour inner dial ring. Housed in the stainless steel case with 100m of water resistance is the ETA 2824 automatic movement, visible through the exhibition caseback and offering 80 hours of power reserve.

To check out the Khaki Field Expedition watches for yourself, head over to Hamilton’s website, where they’re priced at either CHF 970 (~$1,070) or CHF 1,050 (~$1,158).
