G-SHOCK’s 2110 ‘CasioOak’ G-STEEL Watch Ditches Solar Power For Shinier Dials

Back in March, G-SHOCK unveiled its first colored dial for the B2100 watch — the Full Metal version of the 2100 “CasiOak” which only came with black dials before that. Now, the Casio sub-brand is readying a September release of its new GM-2110 series, which has already started popping up in G-SHOCK shops overseas. Let’s take a look at what these timepieces are all about…

G-SHOCK GM-2110 Basics

On the surface, the 2110 looks like new colorways of the Full Metal 2100 watches, but there’s a bit of a twist here. Aside from the polished stainless steel bezels and bracelets, which automatically elevate these watches to a new premium level, the cases themselves will be made of resin. Albeit, this resin will be fiberglass-reinforced and appear to be steel in its own right.

Why is this important, you ask? Well, for one, resin is not only virtually indestructible when constructed properly — which G-SHOCK certainly knows how to do — but it’s significantly lighter in weight than stainless steel. G-SHOCKs are known to be quite large at nearly 50mm across, and a steel construction only adds to that. It brings the weight down from 165g of the B2100 to 146g — that’s about ⅔ of an ounce lighter. The dimensions of the watch, however, are the same with a 49.3mm diameter and 11.8mm thickness.

To eliminate wear and tear that a steel bracelet could have on a resin case (since this is nearly unheard of in the watch world and a first for G-SHOCK), many speculate that resin parts may be used to connect them together.

New Dial, Who Dis?

Like the 2100, these will have virtually the same analog-digital displays. But as for the new colorways, the 2110 will debut in five dial variants — sky blue, midnight blue, green, orange, and silver. What’s more, these dials will feature attractive metallic finishes to go along with the steel surroundings. These reflective dials aren’t possible on the 2100 models with Tough Solar power, thus the 2110 is not a solar-powered watch, which might be a dealbreaker for some. However, I see this as a necessary evil that allows such a striking dial aesthetic.

Any Other Features?

While Tough Solar has been ditched, the 2110 will sport a stopwatch, a countdown timer, a world time function, 5 daily alarms, and an hourly time signal. There’s also both an LED dial light and LCD backlight, while the case boasts an expected 200m of water resistance.

G-SHOCK GM-2110 G-STEEL

G-SHOCK has a new watch series based on its 2100 CasiOaks. Debuting in five different colorways, the 2110 series is its first to pair a resin case with a steel bracelet. And while it won’t have Tough Solar, this allows for metallic dials.
