More than perhaps any other element, the color of a watch’s dial will be a determining factor for whether you pull the trigger on purchasing it or not. Some wearers love the loud and audacious colorways while others (if not most) prefer to keep things standard with black, white, or some other more neutral-colored dial. And then there’s the color blue. A blue-dial watch can be the perfect compromise; the shade goes with almost anything and yet is expressive enough for those who want something less “boring” than black or white. Coinciding with Casio Watch’s 50th anniversary, the Japanese giant’s G-SHOCK subsidiary has debuted two of its most popular Full Metal models with dials in metallic blue — Casio’s brand color.
Gracing the faces of the GM-B2100 and GMW-B5000, this metallic blue shade is striking at first glance and provides a cool contrast to the stainless steel cases and matching bracelets of the watches. A modernized take on G-SHOCK’s first-ever watch, the GMW-B5000D-2 brings the vibrant color around the edge of the inverted LCD digital display thanks to blue vapor disposition on the glass itself.
On the other hand — er, wrist — is the GM-B2100AD-2A, which is the first-ever GM-B2100 with a colored dial (this refers to the Full Metal CasiOak models and they typically come with black dials). As opposed to the metallic blue GMW-B5000 where the blue vapor deposition is given to the glass, the new GM-B2100 watch gets its color from blue vapor deposition on the actual dial itself. Both watches come equipped with a Bluetooth smartphone link, Tough Solar, and LED backlights, while the GMW-B5000 features Multi-Band 6 time adjustment. Like standard G-SHOCKs, both of these timepieces are shock-resistant and water-resistant to 200m.
Currently available from the G-SHOCK website, the Full Metal GM-B100 and GMW-B5000 in metallic blue are priced at $550 each.
