Fun-Tech-Lab Unveils Windsible Desktop Wind Tunnel

The use of wind tunnels has been absolutely essential for research and development in both the aviation and automotive industries. First invented by Francis Herbert Wenham in 1871, wind tunnels typically require massive purpose-built structures and enormous turbines, which makes them wildly expensive to build or rent.

And while full-sized wind tunnels are primarily only available to designers and engineers, the general public is now being given the ability to enjoy visual fluid dynamics from the comfort of their home or office thanks to the all-new Fun-Tech-Lab Windsible Desktop Wind Tunnel.

The Basics

Thanks to a micro wind tunnel chamber with visible fluid dynamics, Fun-Tech-Lab’s Windsible Desktop Wind Tunnel presents a lifelike experience that allows users to test and explore the aerodynamics and drag coefficent of any toy or model car, bike, plane, or really any other vehicle. This product aims to elevate the typical car model display experience through adding aerodynamic visualization.

Fog-Based Visual Fluid Dynamics

Representing the world’s very first car model display case with aerodynamic visualization, this desktop wind tunnel uses a fluid-fed fogger device that operates like a smoke machine and comes outfitted with a plethora of smoke nozzle options. Illuminating the interior of the display is a series of automotive-grade lighting. Powered via a standard home outlet, the entire system boasts a near-silent operation, too.

Sizes & Scales

The Fun-Tech-Lab Windsible Desktop Wind Tunnel is initially being produced in a trio of different sizes. The smallest is a 1:64 scale version that clocks in at 13.74”x 4.30” x 3.35” ”. In the middle of the pack is the 1:24 scale system that spans 28.39” x 6.06” x 7.87”. The largest of the three variants is the 1:18 scale that measures 37.44” x 7.20” x 8.82”.

The Exterior

Even without the interior visual fluid dynamics, the Windsible is still an incredibly handsome display case. Rustproof and shockproof, the case features a knurled nob that allows you to control MPH on the display, plus sports a flip-up hatch for inserting or removing cars. The aft-end of the outside of the display comes capped off with a taillight-like setup that’s comprised of LED-backlit acrylic panels — a design that’s seemingly inspired by custom motorcycles.

Other Odds & Ends

A customizable display screen allows the user to control the speed of the visual fluid dynamics. The system also benefits from the use of customizable lighting. The mini wind tunnel system was also designed not to harm or effect model cars whatsoever. The front of the system also boasts a 3D-printed lattice-style cover.
