Ford Is Making a Spirit of America Edition of Its Upcoming 800-HP Mustang GTD for 2025

Few American vehicles are as iconic as the Ford Mustang, and few represent the ambitious spirit of our nation, especially during the 20th century. Speaking of which, Ford has a new Spirit of America edition of the Mustang GTD with a white body and red and blue accents.

The Epitome of American Muscle

Responsible for igniting the pony car segment as a whole, the Mustang was brought to the light of day after a small crack team at Ford decided to turn its sedan into a sports car. What once began as a two-seater concept (called the Mustang I) with racing aspirations in mind, the car was eventually given an additional two seats to appeal more to families wanting a more style-forward automobile.

The plan worked! In 1964, the first production Mustangs debuted, nearly quadrupling expected sales and becoming the most successful vehicle launch since the Model A in 1927. Other car companies couldn’t wait to give their own shot at this pony car idea, with the likes of Chevy, Dodge, Pontiac, and AMC all releasing their own successful imitations.

Today, the Mustang has sold millions of models and is Ford’s longest-running nameplate, having been in continuous production for the past 60 years and counting.

2025 Ford Mustang GTD Spirit of America Basics

Honoring the legacy of the Mustang, as well as its early racing accomplishments, becoming the first American car with a sub-7-minute lap at Nürburgring, Ford has made a red, (mostly) white, and blue version of the 2025 Mustang GTD.

Inspired by the track-only GT3, the street-legal Mustang GTD is built with a 5.2-liter V8 engine capable of 815hp, 664lb.ft of torque, and a top speed of 202mph — besting any other street-legal Mustang ever.

This Spirit of America edition features merely cosmetic enhancements such as the Performance White body with twin red-and-blue racing stripes down the center. This takes after the red, white, and blue styling of the Mustang Tribar from 1964. According to the press release, the design is also inspired by the overalls worn by Craig Breedlove when he broke the land-speed records twice during the mid-’60s.

As an aside, Ford named this Mustang GTD edition after Breedlove’s Spirit of America vehicles, which used turbojet engines to eclipse the 500-mph and 600-mph marks in ‘63 and ‘65, respectively, helping to inspire the American auto engineers at that time as well. This is a loose connection to say the least, but it’s relevant enough to mention.

Other elements on the new vehicle include carbon fiber on the front splitter, rear diffuser, and spoiler — the latter of which comes with Race Red end plates and “MUSTANG” written on the underside, “leaving no doubt for trailing cars about what just passed them.” If you purchase this car, you’ll get to choose between red or exposed carbon fiber mirror caps.

There’s More Inside

As you can expect, Ford is offering a unique interior for this Spirit of America package as well. These features include an exclusive seat option inspired by all-glass cockpits, with leather trim, Dinamica inserts, a Race Red gradient stripe down the center, and Victory Blue stitching. The inside features this blue hue rather prominently for stitching, while the dashboard is set in exposed carbon fiber as well. 3D-printed titanium is employed for the paddle shifters, shift ring, and IP badge.
