6 Fashion Rules You Can (And Should) Break In 2024
Nov 22, 2024Filson x Birkenstock Shoe Collection
Filson and Birkenstock collaborate on a trio of high-end shoes and boots, blending DNA from both heritage brands.
Since 1897, Filson has become synonymous with outdoor-ready clothing and gear for adventurers who value quality above all else. And now the American heritage brand has joined forces with Birkenstock, the German footwear staple for 250 years running, for a trio of silhouettes that combine the ethos of both icons.
Seeming to be designed by Birkenstock and created by Filson using its own construction techniques and fabrics, the collection consists of the London Methow Shoe, the Lahti hunting boot, and the Skykomish utility boot.
Available in dark tan leather or light brown suede colorways, the London Methow is a unique low-top moccasin-toe shoe resembling a sandal with its buckle over the top of its premium leather uppers. Underfoot you get an anatomical cork/latex footbed that, despite a sturdy rubber cork outsole, is “soft enough to feel the sensation of earth beneath your feet.” The low-top shoe utilizes an exclusive dual brass ring strap adjustment system as well.
As for the Lahti, it has a real vintage aesthetic, especially in the forest green colorway with an oiled nubuck leather base. The hunting boot also comes in flame orange with suede. Designed to be collapsible, the uppers are constructed using 100% Mackinaw wool. Meanwhile, the interior utilizes Birkenstock’s Deep Blue footbed, which gives you four-layer support combining polyurethane for absorbing shocks, an EVA core stabilizer, and the same anatomic cork as the Methow — all bound together with braided jute. The footbed is designed to be easily inserted and removed. For controlling sweat and other moisture, there’s a water-resistant microfleece lining on the inside as well.
Also featuring the Deep Blue footbed is the Skykomish, which only comes in the single dark tan colorway. A side zipper help you step inside these wet weather boots, made to resist moisture thanks to Filson’s oil-finished Tin Cloth waxed cotton fabric, complemented with leather on the bottom of the uppers and at the front of the ankle. Design-wise, you’re looking at something that bucks the traditional look of typical utility boots while still retaining that vintage aesthetic. More water resistance is given to the outsole, which is cleated to help you dig into terrain when it’s wet.
