Canada Goose’s Glacier Trail Sneaker High Is a $550 Hiking Boot

It may seem moot to purchase a hiking boot that costs hundreds of dollars. After all, these trail sneakers are likely going to venture through mud, water, rough terrain, and at the very least, dirt. Canada Goose has only been making footwear for a couple of years. The Toronto-based luxury brand is known for high-end coats and jackets, occasionally with ostensible outdoor utility. Now, after a brief hiatus, it’s unveiled a new hiking boot that will cost you somewhere in the ballpark of a clean $550.

Made in Europe, the Glacier Trail Sneaker High looks stylish at first glance, with a unique upper design that almost appears to blend with its white outsole. The blue upper becomes a stretchy collar that extends well above the ankle. If it looks like it would be difficult to get your foot inside, you’ll be happy to know that the shoe unzips from the very top all the way down to the base of the toes via a waterproof zipper. Inside the rubberized leather protective wrap is an HDry membrane that’s both 100% waterproof and breathable. Ensuring a tailored fit, the shoe is also wrapped with 360-degree hydrophobic laces that can be cinched from the rear. If that’s not enough, the back of the shoe has a trio of webbing for whatever gear or small pouches you’ll want to carry with you.

As far as comfort, you’ll benefit from the lightweight midsole that’s shaped like “wind-blown snow drifts,” a TPU heel stabilizer for added support, and an insole lined with onSteam microfiber fabric that’s breathable and temperature-regulating. It’s unclear what the lug depth is here, but the outsole sports a wide surface area for stability and a multidirectional tread design that Canada Goose says can tread easily through rain and snow.

If you’d like to try out the Glacier Trail Sneaker High for yourself (a low-top women’s pair is also available), head over to Canada Goose’s website now. It’s priced at $550.
