Ares Wami Lalique Spyder | Uncrate

Most people would say that building a car that met today’s safety standards while capturing the essence of ’50s and ’60s roadsters would be impossible. Ares didn’t think so — and Wami Lalique Spyder proves it. Ares threw out the modern obsession with bigger numbers and all the tech required to make a high-performance car livable and drivable for the a person with average driving skills. Instead, the Lalique is powered by a 231 horsepower inline-six — think Mercedes 280SL, not Porsche or Ferrari. The engine was chosen for its character and sound; something that would pair perfectly with the bodywork. A mash of classic Ferrari and Maserati with a dash of Jaguar, the Lalique looks like a well-designed whole and not a skin stretched to fit a modern frame — although it is carbon fiber, not hand-formed aluminum. French crystal maker Lalique lent its name and 13 handmade crystals applied to the car’s body, interior, and wheels. Just 12 examples of this modern classic will be produced.
