Ape’s Top 10 Of The Month: June 2024

Welcome to Ape to Gentleman’s Top 10 of the Month feature. We have curated the top trends, insights and advice to help you live your best life.

In this instalment, we’ve handpicked 10 essential topics covering everything from style to grooming, cyber trailers to motorcycles. Whether you’re seeking inspiration for a wardrobe overhaul, eager to enhance your grooming routine, or simply looking for the best and latest releases, we’ve got you covered.

Let’s explore how to make June your most stylish, successful and satisfying month yet.

Maison Margiela High Frequency ‘Grey Mix’

Fashion powerhouse Maison Margiela has dropped a futuristic lace-up sneaker, and we’re into it. Sitting somewhere between a modern mix of New Balance and Salomon, the High Frequency ‘Grey Mix’ sneaker is a forward-facing, ready-to-wear piece of French high fashion.

Inspired by a classic 1970s Austrian sneaker, the High Frequency sees a leather and suede upper, with tonal grey layering, sit atop a chunky rubber outsole.

It’s one of our favourite new kicks we’ve seen heading into summer.

Sonos Ace Headphones

Sonos have been teasing their Ace headphones for a while, and we’re pleased to see they are now expected to ship from June 5.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of being in the same room as a Sonos speaker knows the brand’s audio credentials. Now, with their Ace headphones, you can immerse yourself in that pristine sound on the go.

Made for a comfortable, bespoke fit, they feature premium-quality spatial and lossless audio, with aware mode, head-tracking and Dolby Atmos technology for a full 360-degree spatial listening experience. Needless to say, we want in.

Altamura Vodka

We first heard about Altamura from trusted sources at Venice Cocktail Week last year. A vodka, from Italy of all places, made from the wheat of the same name, also used to make the only bread in Europe (Pane di Altamura) with protected designation of origin status.

Bread credentials aside, cocktail experts in Venice suggested it made for a great vodka martini. We bought a bottle back and have been supping homemade, ice-cold vodka martinis ever since – so much so that they’ve replaced our beloved Negroni as a default.

Smooth, with a slight sweetness that makes it enjoyable neat, it’s definitely one for bolstering the drinks trolly.

Oliver Spencer’s Polo and Tees Edit

Needless to say, we’re big fans of Oliver Spencer. Great clothes, always well-curated, with an in-store experience that harks back to the glory days of shopping being enjoyable.

We’re not surprised to see another shop of theirs recently popping up on Chiltern Street, Marylebone. And resort-ready polos and tees are a good excuse to drop in. Summer 2024 at Oliver Spencer sees plenty of that trademark textured striping, a welcome use of terry towelling and a sharp, fabric and colour-forward approach to T-shirts that are crying out for a French tuck.

George Groves Boxing Club Podcast

With Saudi Arabia’s showcase Riyadh boxing season in full flow, a new undisputed World Heavyweight Champion in Oleksandr Usyk and British fighting as exciting as it’s been for years, boxing is having a big moment.

With that comes a special type of pub bore that pretends to know what is happening but clearly does not. Don’t be that guy. The back catalogue of the George Groves Boxing Club Podcast is one of the most informative, entertaining and enjoyable ways to swat up on not just the sport itself but a new generation of fighters.

Former world super-middleweight champion George Groves and boxing journalist Declan Taylor interview everyone from promotors to judges, fighters to cutsmen to provide unique insight into the sweet science. Episodes are on pause until the end of summer, but there’s plenty in the back catalogue to get stuck into.

Ducati Monster Senna

All the streetwear headlines are pointing towards the Ducati x Supreme apparel drop (a follow-up to the special edition Ducati Streetfighter V4 S). Still, there’s a different Ducati that’s caught our eye.

The Ducati Monster Senna is a commemorative version of one of Ducati’s most legendary bikes, paying tribute to motorsports legend Ayrton Senna, one of the first to own and ride a Monster 900.

With a special livery in the iconic yellow, blue and green of Senna’s helmet, the bike is 4kg lighter than a standard Monster and features premium components and exclusive equipment.

Living Vehicle Cyber Trailer

It seems apt that Living Vehicle has launched a futurist cybertruck trailer just as Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga hits the cinemas, Elon’s Cybertruck is doing a PR tour around UK city centres, and the world carries a persistent sense of dystopian doom.

The all-new Living Vehicle Cyber Trailer is a 100% solar-powered, all-electric trailer that’s tow-compatible with notable electric SUV brands F150, Rivian and Cybertruck, as well as petrol and diesel tow vehicles.

Details are hush-hush for now, but early details suggest the trailer features water harvesting features, with deliveries starting in 2025.

Universal Works – Reopens Hotel Deluxe Capsule

We remember years ago talking to Universal Works co-founders David Keyte and Stephanie Porritt about their vision for the first Hotel Deluxe capsule, with the two citing Wes Anderson’s then recently released Grand Budapest Hotel and a bag of hundreds of colourfully designed matchstick packets (inherited by a pub owner friend) as inspiration.

Years later, UW is again opening the Hotel Deluxe capsule wardrobe doors, this time for Summer 2024. The collection features a five-star mix of exclusive patterns, trademark wide-leg pleats and an all-important Kyoto jacket.

Whether it’s Bridlington or the Bahamas this year, it’ll do the trick.

Lifestraw

If you’re on the hunt for a new water bottle, Lifestraw is worth considering. Not only is it one of those brands that makes total sense when you see it in action (run a glass of muddy water through a Lifestraw filter and see what comes out—it’s remarkable), but it’s also a climate-neutral certified B Corp with a humanitarian mission. For every product sold, a child in need receives safe access to clean drinking water for a year.

Lifestraw’s membrane microfilters protect against bacteria (including E. coli and Salmonella), parasites (including Giardia and Cryptosporidium), microplastics, sand, dirt and cloudiness.

A perfect travelling companion providing safe hydration.
