Made to celebrate the Prancing Horse’s 50th anniversary, the Ferrari F50 is a wildly iconic exotic that upon its debut was the closest thing to a road-legal F1 car that money could buy. Though it benefitted from the use of F1-style construction, aerodynamics, and technology, the F50 — successor to the mighty F40 — was a true driver’s car through and through, with the vehicle being devoid of  power steering, ABS, and power assisted braking. Between that and the car’s styling, the F50 has quickly become one of the most sought-after contemporary Ferrari models. And while all F50 examples are undeniably special, there are several versions that are seen as being even more significant such as the small batch of specimens that left the factory wearing a coat of Giallo Modena paint — one of which is slated to soon cross the auction block. 

One of only 31 F50 examples finished in a Giallo Modena livery (Italian for “Modena Yellow”), this particular 1997 specimen was originally sold within Ferrari’s native Italian market, though would eventually trade hands and be exported to the Far East where its owner would hold on to it for the next several decades — meticulously caring for the car the entire time. Fast forward to today and this 1-of-31 F50 is now seeking a new home. Making this example even more rare and unique is the fact that it sports a seldom-seen interior configuration that’s been trimmed in a combination of smooth black leather and yellow suede before being complemented via a full carbon fiber trim package. 

Like other F50s, this Giallo Modena example is powered by one of Ferrari’s mid-mounted Tipo F130B engines — a naturally-aspirated 4.7-liter V-12 with five valves per cylinder and 512hp and 347ft-lbs of torque on tap. Alongside the actual car itself, this sale also includes the complete array of accessories and components that the F50 left the factory with. Housed inside a massive F50-branded hard case, this includes the original owners manuals, leather Ferrari registration sleeve, and a pair of headrest roll-bars and cowls for when the car’s hardtop is removed. 

Being offered as part of Sotheby’s Sealed’s Hong Kong sale, this 1997 Ferrari Giallo Modena F50 is expected to fetch between $4,000,000 and $5,000,000 when it goes under the hammer starting on October 2.
