When it comes to quality consumer electronics, Sony has been ahead of the game since starting in 1946. The company’s mirrorless cameras, in particular, are held in high regard among those in the industry, and it’s been this way since the release of the first full-frame mirrorless camera: the Sony α7. This camera was part of Sony’s Alpha series, which is also quite popular among professionals, along with the α6000 lineup of compact cameras. And Sony has just announced a new addition to the Alpha series: the Sony Alpha 6700, which has the compact body of an α6000 with the tech of the latest Alpha cameras, along with a ton of upgrades like a dedicated AI processor.
This camera uses a 26MP APS-C format Exmor R back-illuminated CMOS sensor and Sony’s powerful BIONZ XR processing engine to produce stunning image quality in a manageable body. You get 4K recording up to 120 fps, but the kicker with this iteration is the AI processor taken from the α7R V. This tech allows the camera to use “Real-Time Recognition” autofocus, which accurately tracks subjects and even identifies what they are. The innovation doesn’t stop outside, however, as the camera is made with recycled materials, including one made from recycled plastic called SORPLASTM.
Additionally, for creatives who need high-quality audio, the Sony ECM-M1 shotgun microphone is also being released, and it has eight sound pickup modes and works seamlessly with the α6700. In fact, the ECM-M1 is the first shotgun mic with eight dial-selectable audio recording models, so this is a big release week for Sony and Sony fans.
The Sony Alpha 6700 is currently available for pre-order, starting at $1,399 for just the body, $1,499 for the body with the 16-50mm power zoom lens, and $1,799 for the 18-135mm power zoom lens.
