Artisan Vehicle Design Unveils a Nissan R35 GT-R Retromod

The Nissan Skyline is one of the most legendary Japanese sports cars of all time, first being introduced in 1969 and seeing a myriad of generations come and go before culminating in the current R35 model. Of the 13 generations that exist, the most coveted is almost certainly the iconic R34, which was only built from 1999 through 2002. And while the R35 no doubt trumps the turn-of-the-millennium era model in terms of performance, the latest version of the GT-R lacks much of the distinctive character and charm of its R34 predecessor. Aiming to offer the best of both worlds, UK-based outfit Artisan Vehicle Design has just pulled the cover off of an R35-based high-performance retromod that sees the new model cloaked in a modernized set of R34-inspired bodywork before gaining a host of other upgrades.

Drawing ample inspiration from the R34, Artisan’s totally-reworked GT-R sports a boxier set of bodywork that’s been given an unmistakably contemporary twist with rounded edges, completely redesigned LED head and taillights, a custom hood with dual intakes, and a full aero kit complete with a front splitter, side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a dual-plane rear wing. The entire suite of bodywork is crafted from carbon fiber — some of which is left on display while the rest is cloaked in one of several paint options that all pay homage to stock paint choices on prior GT-R gens. The custom design has also been bestowed with a dual-exiting exhaust setup set in the retromod model’s rear diffuser.

Underneath its redesigned body, Artisan’s GT-R also sees its chassis tweaked, plus the thing gains a host of performance upgrades. The interior of the car has also been completely redesigned and now features an all-carbon fiber trim and panel package, custom carbon fiber RECARO race seats, a massive Tesla-style center display screen, and Alcantara upholstery throughout. Meticulously manufactured in Hannover, Germany, each car is custom-made on a built-to-order basis, with buyer’s being given an enormous host of configurable options, including a powertrain that makes up to 1,000hp. Artisan’s GT-R can also be further upgraded via the shop’s available Track Package and Ultimate Package.

Limited to just 36 units worldwide, the Artisan Vehicle Design Nissan R35 is available for order now with pricing available upon request.
