Callum’s Skye Concept Is an Off-Roader with a Sportscar Design

Ian Callum has been designing cars professionally since the ‘70s. His legacy has included longstanding tenures at both Ford and Jaguar, and also motor racing engineering firm TWR Design, where he famously came up with the look for iconic models such as the Aston Martin DB7, Aston Martin Vanquish, and Nissan R390. However, a few years back, Callum himself decided to launch his own product design firm independently, and now his first-ever model has just been unveiled to the public. It’s an odd-looking off-roader but has some serious capabilities.

Made for both road and rough terrain, the Callum Skye may look like something out of a James Bond movie but won’t require secret agent status to own and operate. Featuring a fully enclosed cabin, the vehicle runs entirely on electricity and is designed to reduce weight (~2,535lbs) thanks to the steel and carbon chassis and maximize performance despite the roughly 13-foot length. According to Callum, he tried to make a car that perfectly balanced form and function. So not only do the windows at the lower portion of the door look cool but they serve the purpose of improving visibility when driving. The glass-heavy exterior is curved for improved aerodynamics. It doesn’t look like a typical off-road vehicle, that’s for sure.

Inside, the Skye features a 2 + 2 seating configuration similar to old 911 sports cars. As for the powertrain, the vehicle runs on a 42kWh battery with 170 miles of range and a 0-to-60 time of under 4 seconds. Underneath the car are wide multi-terrain tires with high exposure for better approach and departure angles.

As of now, the Callum Skye is just a concept but the marque is planning on producing 100 examples per year beginning in 2025. You can head over to Callum’s website to learn more and sign up for updates.
