The motorcycle industry owes a lot to Royal Enfield. As the oldest continuously operating bike company in the world, founded in 1901, the India-based marque has informed many of the designs that are still on the market today, especially with its Bullet, which is still in production. In fact, a lot of the brand’s models retain their original classic styling, yet you wouldn’t know the difference since their design language has been embedded in our culture for so long that they’re now timeless. Stepping foot in the world of wristwatches, Royal Enfield has recently partnered with a company with a much shorter history. 

Less than a decade old, Unimatic has tapped its Modello Quattro military dive watch as the base for yet another collaborative watch release. Following recent projects that see the Italian watchmaker partner with the likes of Massena LAB, MoMA, and Huckberry, this new U4-RE reference in tandem with Royal Enfield is arguably one of the most high-profile team-ups we’ve seen from Unimatic. And its signature minimalist styling is perfect for the job.

If it weren’t for the red Royal Enfield logo on the dial and embossed caseback, one could have easily mistaken this special-edition timepiece for a standard Unimatic release. Aside from the sandblasted stainless steel case, in the original 40mm size with 300m of water resistance, the watch does nothing over-the-top with its colorway or design. Powered by the Seiko-made NH35A movement, the basic three-hand, no-date configuration is hosted by a glossy black diver-style dial with gold-colored accents on the hands, indices, hour markers, and outer seconds track, all paying homage to the pinstripes on Royal Enfield’s motorcycles. It’s illuminated at night with Super-LumiNova GL.

Limited to just 122 pieces, the Royal Enfield x UNIMATIC Modello Quattro U4-RE can be acquired via drawing on Unimatic’s website right now. Winners of the drawing will pay €550 (~$588) for the timepiece.
