Rolls-Royce Rolls Out Its Insanely-Exclusive Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection

Imbued with a sense of rebellion while remaining thoroughly elegant, Rolls-Royce Motor Car’s Black Badge range has always been targeted towards the marque’s edgier cliental who appreciate the lineup’s largely black-out finishes and exclusive details. Produced in extremely limited numbers, the latest addition to this range is the new Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection — a special edition run of the super luxury sedan that’s inspired by solar eclipses.

The outside of the car comes cloaked in a Lyrical Copper livery that incorporates a powdered copper pigment that presents as dark until hit with light, at which point it produces an iridescent effect. This primary coat comes contrasted via Mandarin accents adorning the vehicle’s Pantheon Grille and brake calipers, as well as its coachline which has been hand-painted with Mandarin pin-striping. Inspired by the moment during an eclipse in which golden twilight surrounds those taking in the eclipse, presenting the illusion of a 360-degree sunset, the interior of the Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis comes loaded with bi-colored seats that sport unique perforated artwork comprised of more than 200,000 individual perforations. Also found in the cabin is Mandarin upholstery piping contrasting its black leather primary construction, bespoke illuminated tread-plates, and pop-out umbrellas with Mandarin accents. Also of note is the Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis’  illuminated fascia, which boasts 1,846 laser-etched ‘stars’ — an element that requires over 100 hours of expert labor to bring to life.

In typical Rolls-Royce fashion, the ceiling of the Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis boasts a fully Bespoke Starlight Headliner that features a special animation and sequence of 940 “stars” that lightens as the doors are opened and the engine is started. This sequence then forms a circle out of 192 of these stars that remains visible for precisely seven minutes and 31 seconds – the longest possible duration of a total solar eclipse. Back to the engine, the car is powered by the existing Black Badge Ghost’s twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V12 engine, which is mated to an eight-speed auto and sends nearly 600hp to all four wheels. The Black Badge model’s dash has also been bestowed with what Rolls is calling a “Diamond Ring Timepiece” — an analog clock that incorporates a brilliant-cut 0.5-carat diamond and sports a dark aluminum surround and bezel geometry that’s been modified to accommodate the precious gem. This feature also marks the first-ever use of a gemstone in a clock’s bezel in Rolls’ history.

The 2024 Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection cars are scheduled for an official launch tomorrow on October 14 — a date that coincides with the annular solar eclipse which will be visible in parts of the Western Hemisphere. All 25 examples have already been allocated and are now spoken for.
