It’s camping season, and with all the gizmos and gadgets to choose from, sometimes it can be hard to know what you’re missing. You can never beat the classic A-frame and franks over a fire, but some of the luxuries of home are usually missed, especially if the trip is long. Travel trailers (or camper trailers) can provide many of these creature comforts on the road, and once many get one, they can never go back. The trailers made by Airstream, an American company that started in the late ‘20s, have such an iconic silver silhouette that they’ve become synonymous with camping. REI teamed up with them back in 2022 on their first special edition trailer collaboration (the 16x), and now the duo is back with the REI Co-Op Special Edition Basecamp 20x, a bigger and better update of the 16x.
The 20x has a larger interior along with the Basecamp’s original X-Package, which features a 3” lift kit, Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires, a stainless steel front stone guard, and solar front window protection. It sleeps up to four people comfortably, as opposed to two with the 16x, and includes a new storage compartment in the back on the floor (which features a drain plug, so now you have a cooler without the space taken up).
Both of these legendary outdoor brands are committed to sustainability, which is why this camp trailer is partly built with laminates and fabrics from post-consumer recycled materials and sustainably grown wood, and includes a recirculating water heater. You can also add solar power (with a 360-watt solar package and a 200Ah lithium battery bank) and a composting toilet for an additional cost.
The REI Co-Op Special Edition Basecamp 20x starts at $62,400 and can be purchased through an authorized Airstream dealer near you.
