Headquartered out of San Cesario sul Panaro — just a stone’s throw from Modena in Italy’s famed “Motor Valley” — Pagani Automobili unquestionably produces some of the most elite and exotic automobiles on the planet, with its hypercars sporting seven-figure price tags and an annual production output that’s limited to just 40 units or so. And while its “regular” models are already ridiculously exclusive, Pagani nonetheless offers its most discerning cliental the option of taking things one step further with its Grandi Complicazioni bespoke vehicle program. Working hand-in-hand with the customer, the Grandi Complicazioni program churns out custom-configured, one-of-one, automotive creations — the latest of which to break cover is the all-new Pagani Huayra Epitome.
The Development
Pagani’s Grandi Complicazioni program affords customers with far more than just bespoke paint and upholstery options, ultimately churning out one-off hypercars born out of extensive, more-than-year-long development periods. In the case of the new Huayra Epitome, the client first met with Horacio Pagani and the rest of his team, where they shared their vision for their bespoke Huayra with the marque’s founder and underlings.
Taking its name from the fact this Huayra one-off epitomizes what the Grandi Complicazioni program is capable of, the Epitome project spent nine months in initial development, being designed and specced, before another nine months was spent meticulously bringing the finalized design to life.
The Chassis & Running Gear
In typical Pagani fashion, the Huayra Epitome has been constructed around a wildly-advanced chassis. The car’s framework takes the form of a central monocoque that’s crafted from Carbon-Titanium HP62 G2 and Carbo-Triax HP62, and paired with Cr-Mo steel subframes. What’s more, the one-of-one hypercar rides on a special set of forged aluminum alloy monolithic wheels shod in Pirelli P ZeroTM Trofeo R tires. The car also comes fitted with ventilated Brembo Carbon Ceramic brakes at all four corners, with massive 15.6” rotors up front and 14.9” discs in back.
A Specially-Developed Suspension
Despite the Huayra already boasting a fairly state-of-the-art suspension, the Grandi Complicazioni team opted to further improve the Epitome’s suspension setup — a four-wheel independent setup with double wishbones and upper rocker arms fitted with helical springs and interconnected, electronically-adjustable shock absorbers. First, a new active system was installed. Next, its geometry was tweaked in order to mitigate dive under acceleration and pitch in braking, while also minimizing roll in the corners.
Lastly, the team created a new “Super Soft” mode that maximizes damping and minimizes rebound in order to keep everything ultra-smooth when driving on rough modes. Once the vehicle reaches 93mph, the active suspension automatically cancels Super Soft mode and returns to normal.
Bespoke Blue Bodywork
Though the Epitome build is obviously a Pagani Huayra, it does sport a myriad of details that are unique to this one-off project. Composed of blue carbon fiber that’s been left on full display, the Huayra Epitome’s bodywork features all-new front and rear bumper designs, plus the front-end of the car has received an integrated spoiler and a wider mouth with new inner ducts.
A new wheel arch air extraction system has also been added along with a modified rear hood with oversized side conveyors and an integrated wing that was designed according to the Huayra R’s studies. Interestingly, the car takes some light visual inspiration from the Pagani Imola that the client already has in their collection.
Exclusive Lighting Array
When building a one-off vehicle, the Grandi Complicazioni program leaves no stone unturned, and that means poring over every minute detail of the car. In the case of the Huayra Epitome, this meant treating the hypercar to an exclusive one-off lighting array. The car’s hood has been bestowed with a four-unit light cluster that’s supplemented via a pair of daytime running light elements integrated into the bumper.
An Exotic Engine
At the heart of Pagani’s Huayra Epitome is a 6.0-liter V-12 engine. Individually assembled by hand, these engines are developed and built by Mercedes-AMG to Pagani’s exacting specifications. This 60° V-12 has been outfitted with twin turbochargers that allow the motor to generate an enormous amount of power.
A Manual Gearbox Huayra
In addition to a new suspension setup and a custom suite of blue carbon bodywork, the customer also requested their one-off Huayra be fitted with a manual gearbox. So, the Huayra’s normal seven-speed single-clutch automatic system was jettisoned in favor of a seven-speed Pagani by Xtrac manual transverse gearbox.
This top-of-the-line stick shift features a racing-style tri-pod driveshaft, and a flywheel-clutch unit with a triple-disc clutch. The new transmission also sends power to the car’s rear wheels via an advanced electronically-controlled self-locking differential.
Thanks to a few new internals and some clever massaging, the Huayra Epitome’s AMG-built V-12 now puts down a staggering 864hp and 811.3ft-lbs — from as early as 6,000rpm and 2,500rpm, respectively. This is a pretty substantial boost in power over the already-potent standard Huayra’s 791hp and 775ft-lbs of torque — and is just shy of the 900 ponies that the track-focused Huayra R Evo makes.
All this power allows the Huayra Epitome to achieve a certified hypercar-grade top speed that’s been electronically-limited to a still-respectable 217.5mph. The marque hasn’t cited a 0-60mph time, but based on the regular Huayra’s 3.3-second time, we imagine the Epitome build’s 0-60mph time is closer to 3 seconds flat.
