“It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.” So spoke Ferris Beuller of the California Spyder, a wonderfully understated way to describe one of the most beautiful works of mankind. The 250 GT SWB California Spyder was an evolution of the LWB California Spyder that ran from 1957 to 1960. The car was updated that year with a 276 horsepower, 3.0-liter V12, disc brakes, new Pirelli radial tires, and a revised interior. The Scaglietti bodywork was perfectly proportioned to the new wheelbase, and only 55 were built between 1960 and 1963. Chassis no. 4137GT, pictured here, left Maranello on February 9, 1963, and was the last of the 55 SWB California Spyders made. Shipped new to Charles Rezzaghi Motors in San Francisco, the car has a fully documented ownership history and is sure to fetch a premium when it crosses the block at Mecum’s Kissimmee event this January.
