F1 motor-racing hasn’t always been as technology led and granular as it is today – it was once about the love of speed and taking each other on in some mighty classy looking steeds such as this magnificent looking 1954 Ferrari 625 F1 that is going up for sale at RM Sotheby’s Monaco auction.
With a guide price of £2,150,000 – £2,550,000, this one definitely isn’t coming cheap but this glorious 1954 Ferrari 625 F1 is exceptionally rare and it is the sister car to Ferrari’s first World Championship-winning car, the extremely successful 500 F2, which took Alberto Ascari to back-to-back World Championships in 1952 and 1953.
There is a lot of heritage to this lot from RM Sotheby’s and it was the only Ferrari monoposto ever raced by the legendary Marquis Alfonso de Portago so, if you’re a fan of legendary motor-racing and happen to have incredibly deep pockets, this 1954 Ferrari 625 F1 is definitely for you. It has been retained for over 15 years in the prestigious Bardinon Mas du Clos Collection and is presented in an entirely immaculate condition to make it the crowning glory of any collection.
In December 2000, a discerning collector from Cologne, Germany, acquired this exceptional Ferrari, meticulously maintaining it over 21 years to ensure its present outstanding condition. In April 2022, the Ferrari underwent an inspection by Ferrari Classiche, confirming its authenticity with matching chassis and engine numbers and verifying the gearbox as the correct type for the model.
The opportunity to own one of Ferrari’s early Formula 1 cars is a rarity, but a vehicle of such remarkable originality is a must-have for the most selective of collectors. It is eligible to take part in some of the most exclusive vintage racing events in the world, and can expect a warm welcome at premiere Concours events. It invites admirers to indulge in its brilliant engineering mandate, fostered by the genius of Aurelio Lampredi, and employed to such overwhelming success by the luminary Alberto Ascari.
