1938 Talbot-Lago T150 C Lago Spéciale Teardrop Coupe

Before Luigi Chinetti was Ferrari’s North American importer, he was a mechanic for Alfa Romeo’s racing team. Shortly after leaving Alfa, he became the exclusive French importer of Talbot-Lago chassis fitted with teardrop bodies by Figoni et Falaschi. Chinetti sold the car pictured here, chassis no. 90034, to an Antoine Schumann as a replacement for his Bugatti Type 50 — not a bad idea. Schumann settled on Figoni et Falaschi’s No. 9222 design that recalls another famous Bugatti — the Type 57 Atlantic. The Schumann family would flee France during the Germany invasion of 1940, stashing away the car while Schumann went to Egypt and joined the French Resistance. Schumann returned to France after the war, passing away at 50. The car was then purchased by Frédéric Damman, who ran it in the 1948 edition of Belgium’s 24 Hours of Spa where it placed first in class. In 2005, the car was subjected to a thorough restoration by RM Auto Restorations. This T150 still wears its original bodywork in the original color and even retains its original — albeit refreshed — interior, with an unbroken ownership history. This T150 goes to auction in Canada with an estimate of up to $8.5 million dollars.
